We stayed at the Triton before bay to breakers. it's a great place and relatively inexpensive place to stay (about $140 a night for a standard room).
The room was small but was was well kept and quite clean. The bed was comfortable and we got a good night's sleep before the run.
The hotel's lobby has a very funky design. It was coloful--it had hues of blue, red, purple, red--it was like a rainbow in the lobby.
That said, the Triton Hotel has a good location in San Francisco, it's inexpensive, it's clean, and despite the fact that the rooms are small, you can't beat the price. I highly recommend it.

Another time my auntie came, she staid at this hotel. Her buisiness was paying for it since she was in SF on business. As usual we were helping her move her stuff around the room. (she brings lots of stuff with her). her company paid fo rthe most expensive type room. the closet was big and everythign was clean. also, there was a recliner and a nice sized tv. you dont see that much in hotels.

I work in SF on a regular basis and stay in hotels quite a bit usually targeting the $100-$150/night. Carlton just completed a $5mil renovation and the rooms are very clean. One annoying thing is that there is free internet in the lobby, but they charge you extra from internet in the rooms. If you get a room that "includes internet" you'll simply be paying $10-$15 more per day for the same room without internet.
It's pretty annoying especially how inexpensive it is with wifi to get the rooms wired.
some comparables i've stayed in, Diva, kensington park, commodore, union square hotel, pickwick. Carlton is definitely cleaner and nicer than any of these, which are in the similar price range.
location is great as well where you're a quick walk to union sq (10 min) but also can hit polk st and other parts of the city away from union sq.
get there.

What a great little hotel---located only 2 blocks from Union Square, it's in a perfect location for shopping, dining and sightseeing. Easy walk to Chinatown, and other San Francisco must-see's. The sign to the Hotel Diva is a little difficult to find at first--I passed the hotel entrance twice before I found it, but once inside was very pleased. The rooms are a little small, but hey, that too is a part of the San Fran experience! Loved the swivel TV, comfy pillows and clean, industrial-type look to the room. The shampoos were good quality...overall I was very pleased. No complaints.
Pros: Great location for travelers, nice but not stuffy.
Cons: TV channels were very limited.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Galleria Park. The staff was courteous and the hotel was clean and well decorated. The concierge recommended a nice place to eat. Perry's downstairs was convenient but not very good. The hotels location made it easy to walk just about anywhere we wanted to go. The valet was a little slow and fairly expensive. Love the complimentary wine hour!!!
