I was looking for a unique gift and I stumbled upon Tibet Styles, a jewelery store on Haight Street. They carry a multitude of earrings, necklaces, bracelets and rings with semi-precious stones of all colors. All the jewelery comes from (shock!) Tibet. I picked out a pair of earrings, and the woman at the counter told me it was a milky moonstone. She was very nice and helpful. My boyfriend later went back and bought me a beautiful necklace there, and the same woman said a Tibetan prayer that is supposed to endow protective qualities on the jewelery. Even better, everything is very reasonably priced and nothing will break the bank.
