I like 111 Minna because it is different from any other place I've been. It is a huge art gallery that always seems to have amazing photography, collage, painting, etc. on display. But Minna is also a nightlife spot, with two bars and live djs. The combination seems strange, but I like it. Its nice to have a nightlife spot that is artistic and creative rather than sleazy.

When the old Galia turned into the new 12 Galaxies, the Mission finally had its midsized live music venue us musicians and concert goers had always dreamt of. With balconies, recently renovated stage, and souped up sound system engineered by the same guy who did the system at BOTH, it's a really great place to see a show. For those of you not into the joke, "12 Galaxies" pays homage to the crazy conspiracy theory guy, Frank, who walks around SF with his dark sunglasses, waving signs that make reference to Clinton and his "12 Galaxies". If you've spent any time on Market place, I'm sure you've seen him. In exchange for naming rights, Frank eats and drinks for free anytime he wants.

my sister used to go here for birthday parties and she always had tons and tons of fun so if you are trying to find a place to throw a party for your kids, i think you should reserve this place. it isnt very expensive so most people will probably be able to afford it.

I've taken my seven year old daughter to several birthday partits at Acro Sports and all of the kids have had an excellent time. They get to jump on a trampoline and do some gymnastics. They also have a small room where you can have cake and pizza and the prices are reasonable.

More
The Actor's Theatre of San Francisco is centrally located in San Francisco's Theatre District, just off of Union Square.
They produce Off-Broadway style shows here, a number of which have garnered the coveted Dean Goodman Award, the Bay Area version of the Tonys.
Their current season includes "The Elephant Man" (now running), "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" and others.
The stage is small, so you almost feel like part of the action, especially if it's a loud and particularly violent play - something they seem to do a lot of here.

The Alcatraz Prison tour is an amazing mixture of history, lore, and human interest. In order to get to the infamous prison, you (obviously) need to take a boat- get your tickets in advance! they sell out fast, especially in the summer. The boat rise itself provides amazing views, but the real fun starts on the island. The hike up to prison is steep, but provides time to see and learn about other parts of the islands' history. The audio tour of the prison is incredible. It includes clips from former prisoners and guards. Take time to explore the prison and grounds after the tour. This is a must in San Francisco.

we have brought many people visiting from out of town to Alcatraz because it's a nice tour and shows great history in San Francisco. you can get the audio tour for only like $5 so that's pretty reasonable, and you can get totally creeped out if you decide to go at night. I have heard they sometimes have concerts there, too.

Great informative, interesting tour of history! The ferry ride there was so fun, I recommend sitting on the top deck (even though its freezing, its so worth it!) Go during the "night" tours, they are the most informative and complete tours. I love the audio tour with the actual inmate voices. Is a bit pricey, but who cares? It's really worth it!
Pros: all sorts of public transit can take you here, when you get off theres still hundreds of things to do!
Cons: parking....but dont drive thats dumb...take the cable car and walk!
