I love going to bookstore, to read books, to drink coffee, to relax. With 2 kids - it is hard to do that. And so I choose the best bookstore for days that I have some free time to unwind. that is why Kinokuniya Bookstore is one of the ones that I visit. It is nice and cozy and has lots of interesting books for me to read. I enjoy the atmosphere and a nice walk to the store.

It's too bad that I didn't learn Japanese because this bookstore is awesome and caters mainly to the Japanese-speaking, Japanese-reading population of the Bay Area. It is the largest book store around that carries Japanese everything...from cookbooks, to newspapers, to guidebooks of San Francisco, to comic books, to children books, to self-help books .. all in Japanese. I often come here after eating a good Japanese meal in Japantown to read a Japanese book (or at least pretend to). The stuff here is pretty expensive because it's imported all from Japan, and you know that everything in Japan is expensive. So don't expect to find many bargain books here. The staff are all very nice and polite, and are fluent in both English and Japanese. This book store makes me feel like I'm in Japan.

This bookstore is highly recommended for anyone who's into Japanese culture, and Japanese media. Once you step in, there's a calm demeanor, and great number of choices to browse through. A great place to waste a couple of hours picking up a variety of general subject magazines, and books. They have a nice little cooking section, where you can pick up books on how to prepare Japanese meals. This is probably also the largest Japanese bookstore in the City. Highly recommended.

Kinokuniya Bookstore specializes in Japanese magazines and books. Books are stacked high, and shelf after shelf. It's endless. This place is just like some of the book stores in Japan, or at least it reminds me of it. They offer a great selection. They also sell some Japanese related books that are in English. This is a hot spot to visit if you're into Japanese books and magazines.

Kinokuniya is a popular Japanese bookstore - think a Japanese Borders or Barnes and Nobles and you end up with Kinokuniya. This place has authentic wide variety of Japanese books, maganzines, manga, music and little odds and ends. They also have a wide range of books and manga in both Japanese and English that are devoted to the Japanese culture. This place is my number one spot in J-town for manga.
