This place is great when they have good service, but there is a couple girls particularly one that glares at you as if to say "how dare you enter"! She doesn't even try to be friendly, glares at you like she is going to scratch your eyes out. She has been there for a long time. I live in the neighborhood and multiple people have told me the sole reason they don't go is because of the bad service and particularly this girl. They don't want to deal with the attitude and it ruins the whole experience. I went in for a cup of tea, the guy didn't bother asking me what kind I wanted and just picked one for me. I am not that picky and love tea so I didn't care. But when I tried it I threw it out. It was the worst tasting tea I have ever had. It smelled like fish!! If they really care about getting and keeping business they need to hire new staff. Pros: good coffee good pastries Cons: variying service from great to horrific

Bean There has to be one of the most perfect coffeeshops in the city. Spacious as far as coffeshops go, great coffee, and great vibes. Very cozy and neiborhood-y feel. This is a great place to read, chat with friends, or sip while you watch walkers and their dogs. Lovely location, with nice trees and big windows.

I love Bean There. Not only does it have the best, strongest, coffee available, it also provides a great atmosphere for reading, chatting, working on-line, or even just people watching. The prices are SF prices, no more or less, and staff service varies from extremely nice to indifferent. I am an avid mocha drinker, and my son always gets to kid's hot chocolate. If you ask just for the small, though, you'll get charged for a regular small drink size, $2 something, so make sure if you want the small for a small fry, you ask for the kid's hot chocolate. Location is on a great corner, not too busy, but within walking distance of the Lower Haight. During the early afternoon, you can catch parents w/ their babies, college students, on-line workers, just about anyone hanging out. Great place to grab some coffee and sit down. PROS: CONS: Very busy on weekend mornings, not enough sitting space.
