I have really enjoyed having a whole foods so close by as it is a great resouce for high quality vegetables and fruits as well as excellent buchers who are always helpful - and will answer any questions you have. The take out food is also delicious, but I try to avoid sushi after 6 pm as it gets really dry.

Stop by Whole Foods. They offer a tremendous selection of meats, and other organic products. There is a booming market for organic foods now. And Whole Foods offers great, great selection of organic products. Although there prices often are out of the reach of the masses, if you can afford it, Whole Foods is a great place to shop. You'll have a terrific shopping experience there.

I had a mediocre experience at the Chestnut Bakery. The cakes they have there are a little too sweet and they were out of coffee when I came. The pasteries are unusually expensive, approximately $5-6. There are lots of way better bakeries throughout San Francisco. The only thing I like about this bakery though was that it was not full, and you can find a comfortable place to sit down. posts and comments here

Unlike meat, produce, and cheese, fish isn't generally something you can buy where you can have a special sense of where it came from. I mean, sometimes you buy farmed fish, but mostly it's coming off a boat in the ocean somewhere, and I'm not that sure knowing what country it was fished off of makes that much of difference, unless you're talking about endangered species. But still, it's not as big of a deal, and that sense of origin is what makes most of the shops at the Ferry Building special. So, you don't really get that at the San Francisco Fish Company. Personally, I'm more inclined to save money and go to any of the fish markets around town – especially in the Mission or in Chinatown. But, this shop is beautiful – their display cases are teeming with all sorts of fish and bubbing crab and lobster tanks. They also cook up specialties like smoked salmon and seafood lasagna. I've tried their chowder, and it was yummy. Not as good as East Coast chowder, but good for SF.

I've never stayed in Japantown, so this was a first. This is a basic 70s hotel that someone decided to try to dress up to be a Japanese hotel. So for instance, the room I stayed in had those Japanese window dressing and the bathroom is the Japanese style where there is no shower curtain, so you kind of make a mess everywhere when showering.
The room basically is a 3 star Radisson otherwise. The workout facility is OK and has a few machines.
It is right next to Japan town mall. Like most international districts, the best food and things are actually outside of the neighborhood now, but it is fun to walk around a little.]
The best thing is that it is cheap at $109 for the rack rate (good in San Francisco). Also, it has these fancy sleeper beds with adjustable hardness. I kind of like that.

During a trip to San Francisco, we stayed at both the Westin and the Pan Pacific hotels. While the Pan Pacific had large bathrooms -- it included both a tub and a shower and phones in the bathrooms, we prefered the Westin for its location and great beds. The Pan Pacific was expensive and certainly not worth the price. If we were to visit again, we would look else. It is not a bad hotel by any stretch of the imagination, but there are better cheaper options.
