Mitchell's has the best ice cream in San Francisco. They offer many varieties of flavors, ranging from your typical vanilla and chocolate, to lychee and durian! I haven't tried the durian flavored ice cream, but everything else is great! If you go there on a hot day, be ready to wait in line for a while!
PROS: great flavors, great ice cream
CONS: little parking, long wait when it's hot

Additional upside, rarely will you have to wait in line long. They are fast servers and are really friendly at providing advise on flavors. Yum

There isnt an ice cream shop in San Francisco that beats this one. Living in Berkeley, I'm NOT always in SF, but every time I find myself in the city I will go out of the way to get to Mitchells. Their tropical ice cream flavors are what make them famous, Mango being the best. All of it is homemade and nothing beats it. Check it out!

My favorite is mint chocolate chip but their speciality is exotic flavors, including Avocado, Buko, Guava, Langka, Macapuno, Mango, Pineapple and Ube fruit from the Philippines.
Some of other popular flavors include: Thai Tea, Rum Raisin, Chocolate Caramel Crackle, Passion Fruit Sorbet and Chicago Cheesecake. Over 40 flavors available for you to choose from every day. Be prepared to wait in line unless you grab a quart and head for the express line! -

If you crave ice cream, Mitchell's is another hot spot you have to hit in the city. Their exotic flavors will below you away: Taro, Mango, Lychee, Durian, etc. Highly recommended. My favorites are their seasonal flavors, cantaloupe, honeydew, etc. The best time is summer when all the juicy fruits are out. They're usually fair busy even on a chilly day. Another convenience is that you can get their ice cream in the markets. Access to parking is easy. Definitely stop by for a treat!

I have been going to Mitchell all my life - always exploring their new flavors they come up with. It is the ONLY Ice Cream shop that even in the RAIN there is a line out the door. After all these years, they still make a high quality ice cream. I have turned some may people on to Mitchells over the years and my cousin that lives in Japan now makes her first stop Mitchells and then she knows she is home!
Pros: Parking, Great Product, Friendly Service
Cons: NONE

PROS: Great Flavors

This ice cream is good, really really good. I love the baby coconut and the chocolate. There are lots of flavors to choose from, including the old standbys, as well as several fruit flavors which put this place on the map. The trouble is, its almost off the map: not centrally located, and there are no other branches. It's worth the trek, if you know where you are going. Probably the best ice cream I've had in SF.
Pros: Excellent Ice Cream
Cons: Not centrally located
