Good selection of books you can't find at the more generic Borders or Barnes and Noble. Good customer service is also very helpful for searching for that perfect gift.

I am a So. CA native. I lived a short time in SF when I was growing up & frequented the Clement St. neighborhood (& went to Star of the Sea School). I love this area for it’s diversity. I especially love the Green Apple Bookstore for its sprawl & good selection of unusual books. When I am visiting in SF I try to plan a trip to Green Apple as it is always a treat to spend as much time as possible getting lost in the books & touring through what seems like room after room after room of books. I have special memories of visits & great books I acquired at Green Apple!
"What books have you acquired?" - you ask.
A selection: "Tales from the Prince of Story Tellers" - edited and with an introduction by Barry Menikoff (my intro into the world of Menikoff's research into RLS), "The Collected Poems of W.B. Yeats", "Jorge Luis Borges Collected Fictions" - translated by Andrew Hurley, "Il Fornaio Baking Book: Sweet and Savory Recipes from the Italian Kitchen" (acquired visual memories - did not purchase), and most recently: "The Biodynamic Food & Cookbook: Real Nutrition That Doesn't Cost the Earth" by Wendy E. Cook.
My very favorite bookstore in SF!

I'm a big fan of bookstores. I can spend a long time just browsing, and I love the calm and peaceful atmosphere in most bookstores. Green Apple Books is the absolute best used bookstore I have stumbled upon in the city. Most used bookstores I have been in have a jumbled mess of really ancient books, some of which may look interesting, but for the most part it feels like an old library. Green Apple is different because they have many of the latest titles in every genre, plus nice recommendation cards from the staff. They also carry some of the latest new releases. And if this isn't enough, they have a DVD and magazine section that is great too! I'm in heaven.

So it is a little musty, and I do get flashbacks of draggin my feet through the library waiting for my sisters to give us permission to leave. But, I love going to Green Apple Books. Located on Clement, Green Apple is the place to get new and used books. They have a great selection for very reasonable prices. With all the nooks and crannies to explore, you can easily lose yourself in the store.
Beware, parking stinks.

Green Apple Books is one of my favorite stores in the city. They have thousands of used books in a variety of genres. I like to look through the cookbooks. I can spend hours here perusing the titles. They are cheaper than new books, but not as cheap as you may expect. Most are in very good condition.

Green Apple Books just keeps getting bigger and better. They have acquired an adjacent store front to house their music dept. Their inventory is quite extensive. There are new books and used books. Text books are available also. Greeting cards by local artists. Ladders for you to reach that book on the highest shelf. Lots of stools to sit and read.

But this store is very san francisco, stuck in a new san francisco location (new chinatown!). It's great for used books and has some new ones also...but the charm is int he age. You can tell it must be 50 yrs old and was really a place for the 60's kids to hang out...in fact they still do! Most in there are in their 50's with long hair! haha funny, but a great cute place!
I love the maps and the upstairs also!
Enjoy!

Let's face it, I'm a book worm and I love reading books. I enjoy searching for good deals on new or used books. This place offers books from every genre you can imagine. Parking is pretty difficult though so I normally take public transportation and spend a good portion of my afternoons just hanging out and looking for hidden treasures. It's a great place to come to just browse as well. I think they have another location but this is the location I always go to.
