Stacey's is the best of both worlds - it gives me that warm, fuzzy, slightly-giddy feeling I get when I walk into a Borders AND I know that when I make a purchase there my money isn't going into the belly of some corporate beast. Plus they have a running slate of interesting authors and speakers that visit and present on a regular basis. Their history and current events sections rock and my boy says they have the best mystery section of any generalist bookstore in the city. I"ll have to take his word for it, but I don't doubt it. Stacey's is the best.

We used to shop at Stacy's often when we lived downtown, and sometimes to the Palo Alto one (when it existed) and it has a great selection. They specialize in technical books and they are really great. They also have standard bookstore books -- a great place to come and browse during lunch!

Stacey's Bookstore is my husband's favorite. He only reads technical literature and he finds anythig and evertyhing here. He also purchased lots of school-related textbooks when he was doing his Masters.
In addition, I found lots of design-oriented books here. And there is an online version of this store - which also offers an extensive selection.

Don't worry!!! The friendly and knowledgable staff can special order it for you. They have all the latest and greatest, as well as, classics. Especially helpful is its downtown location. If you work downtown, it's just a leisurely walk. If not, they are right on Market street with access to all the major buslines.

This bookstore offers a wide varieity of reading materials from books to magazines. Store is big but items are not easy to locate. Often times popular books are out of stock. Store is crowded so you feel like buying what you need and leave right away. Staff isn't the most courteous and sometimes can be outright obnoxious.

It's THE non-funky, well-run independent bookstore in San Francisco. They sometimes get major authors/celebs like Roger Ebert. The bargain section doesn't seem to have any good books. The store is very neat and organized. Occasionally they have a great 20% off everything sale. With a free Stacey's Literary License, you always get 10% off everyday.

This is a nice place to go for a couple of hours browsing around with there downtown store. One of the most well put together bookstores around, with plenty of choices, and a very helpful staff. They seem to be quite knowledge in there particular departments, and great to talk with. Simply a joy that they are still around. There books are a bit pricey, but you pay for what you get.

Stacey's is one of my favorite bookstores in San Francisco. It is huge, and it's great to just find a place to sit down and read. They have a large variety of books, and I love looking for the bargain books. When I can't find a book in one of the larger stores like Borders or Barnes and Noble, I usually find it at Stacey's!

This is a really big bookstore located in downtown san Francisco, this store is actually very warm. There is two other floors, a basement floor and an upstair floor full of books. There is a lot of people who works out front so you donโt have to wait in line and everyone is pleasant and friendly. The security guy standing around, makes it look ackward, but itโs really nice overall. I think the price is pretty reasonable, very similar to barnes and noble.
