This relatively new wine and spirits store blew me away the first time I visited. A good friend of mine recommended them to me, and I am hard-pressed to shop for wine elsewhere. Blackwell's is accomodating, informed, and specialized for the serious connossieur and the casual enthusiast (nevermind a wonderful selection of hand-picked, unique spirits). Don't expect to see Yellow Tail or any boxed wine inside, but if you are looking for quality wine at inexpensive prices you will be pleased. While primarily a neighborhood store, Blackwell's has a fantastic collection that seems to draw people from all over the bay (my friend who recommended them to me lives in Oakland). If you have not been in, you are missing out on THE diamond in the rough. I expect big things from Gary and Dita (owners), and their wonderful staff, for the future. Blackwell's is what a wine store is supposed to be.

This place is great. I bought a bottle of fernet there, and got a nice little buzz rolling tasting their wines before I went to see the Dodgers beat up on the Giants. I especially like the bearded Mexican who works there. He knows his sh*t and looks like he comes from a fantastic line of family genes.

One of the few restaurants in SF that lives up to its reputation. Extensive wine list, of course. Excellent food and great service. I've dined here numerous times and have always had a wonderful experience. If you're in for a more casual night, or didn't make a reservation, sit in the bar (they serve the full menu) and listen to the live music. The dining room is worth getting a reservation though.

Plumpjack is a great place to go for wine connoisseur. If you are looking for the perfect gift for someone who appreciates wine then that s the place to go. The staff really knows their wines very well. they also offer wine tasting classes from time to time. They have a good variety of wines from all over the world. The negative side is the price of the bottles that are a bit overpriced.

I went to the Pig the other night for the first time. We played a little darts and pool. The bartender was really nice (I think he was the owner) and the beer is cheap! $4 for a pale ale. It's a great place to hang out with friends.
Pros: Nice people, good times, cheap beer!

I love the Fish Bowl, it is by far the best local watering hole in the city...I know that's a bold statement, but they have great music, friendly and attentive bartenders, drinks specials every night, great partons and an atmosphere that guarentees a good time! It can get a little crowded on weekends past 11, but that's because this is a kickass place to be!
Pros: service, jukebox, atmosphere
Cons: parking, can get crowded, one bathroom

I've stopped in several times since moving to Russian Hill and have always gotten good wine recommendations and felt comfortable browsing or just chatting with the staff. Every person I've spoken with there easily qualifies as a true wine enthusiast.
Pros: $15 and under wine, convenient location, wine tasting

$4 prosecco and lambrusco (a red sparkling wine) and $3 beers. Also, 1/2 price AMAZING homemade lasagnas (I think they always have a vegetarian option) and baked gnocchi... SOOOOO GOOOOD! We had a total of 8 glasses of prosecco (4 each, at 4 bucks each, why not?)
I'll be back, and it's daily, i think 4-7pm
Pros: Great food, great wine
Cons: only 8 tables, but we only had to wait five minutes
