Where do I start? I found Dipietro Todd Salon after I had 2 of the most horrific hair experiences of my life in San Francisco. I am new to the city and after almost giving up I read about Dipietro Todd in Elle Magazine. The article was featuring outstanding colorists for brunettes, specifically Heather from Dipietro Todd. I immediately booked an appointment. First off the salon is clean, modern and has a great vibe. Heather took the time to talk to me before my appointment, consider my goals and consider what would look best. She was genuine, friendly and I felt comfortable and confident in her ideas. Thanks to her, I now have the most gorgeous, deliciously chocolate hair in the world. I especially appreciated her taking to heart that I could not afford to spend $$$ on color and highlights, so she used a technique that gave me the same effect without the extra cost and process. I also set up an appointment with Kohl to get my hair cut. She is AMAZING. She and Heather consulted before starting my services so they could achieve the best over all look. Kohl was a blast and it was refreshing to meet someone who didn't want to chop off all my long hair. On top of it all her assistant took the time to blow-out and curl my hair for free! I left looking and feeling like a movie star! They may charge more than the average san francisco hippie salon, but it is worth every single penny. If you want a serious hair make-over go see Heather and Kohl. The BEST!
Pros: Best services, highly trained staff, focused and fantasic, centrally located
Cons: centrally located - union square is a zoo on weekends!

Colorist: Have had my highlights done there twice and each time had to go back for a redo!!!! At $270 dollars and 2/1/2 hours of processing time to have to go back is totally unacceptable!!!
What is the problem???? I'd go else where if I knew who to go to but in San Francisco there the talent pool is slim.
Hair cut: Had 3 cuts by same person. Liked the cut on the first 2. The third cut I felt I was now being taken for granted and wasn't very good. Found a new stylist and it was superb. Hopefully it will continue to be superb.

I have heard horror stories about modeling for haircut classes, but the color class I modeled for on a Sunday afternoon was sublime. The salon is beautiful - very modern and spacious. The stylists were friendly, professional and eager to learn. The instructors were firm but helpful in making technique suggestions. This was a blonde highlighting class and they took me from icky green-brown ash to a gorgeous sunlit beachy blonde. WOW. Even though the class took about 4.5 hours, it was worth it. I hope everyone who volunteers to be a model to at di Pietro Todd has the same great experience that I did. Thanks!

Alright, I never in a million years thought I would pay over $100 for a cut, but Gino at the Post St salon is phenomenal! a rock star, a master at what he does. I booked an appointment with him when I had long, boring hair and he did this great cut paying attention to my request for soft layers and the angle at which it skimmed my shoulders. I was so impressed with the time he took and his honesty that I only trusted him for a much more dramatic above-the-chin bob, which is super-cute and I love, love, love!
Pros: pricey, but worth the skill

I have lived in the bay area for a little under two years now. Going from salon to salon hoping to find somone who was good and wasn't going to break the bank. However it's not really possible. Well until now. On mondays they use models, I thought I would give it a shot. Why not. My hair looked BEAUTIFUL. The color was perfect! I had just messed up my hair badly by trying to color it very dark. I was a blonde, and she fixed it completely. It looks natural, beautiful and the color lasted forever! Best high-lights I've had in years. I can't wait until she works there full time, because I will have no problem paying full price because she's amazing!
Pros: high lights, attitude, friendly
Cons: parking!!!

I went here for a haircut throught their hair model program. I figured I would be in good hands as this is one of the most expensive salons in the city...unfortunately I had a horrible experience.
The trainee I got decided she wanted to do a classic bob on me, even though I explicitly told her I wanted layers and only a couple inches cut off. She ignored me completely and went ahead with the bob. She cut off at least 5 inches of hair so my hair was shorter than chin length, no layers whatsover, and horribly thick and heavy at the bottom. Too short bangs topped off the disaster. Worse was that I was in the salon for SIX hours. She messed up and had a stylist come over and help her out at the end, and the woman was quite rough with my hair and kept saying over and over how the trainee shouldn't have picked a girl with asian hair. okay...
So 6 hours and $15 down the drain and I was left with a cut that totally did not fit my face and was the opposite of what I wanted. Thanks a lot Di Pietro. They obviously don't care a bit about their clients when it comes to the hair modelling program. I went to Oxenrose the next day and paid another $50 just to look decent again.
The stylists, reception, and manager of the training program all seemed very full of themselves.

I have been getting my highlights done by Michael for years, and have never been dissapointed. The man is a GENIOUS!!! I love my hair every time! He does an amazing job, and I leave feeling like a million bucks every time. If you are looking for a person to do your highlights, go to him, you will not regret it. My highlights are beautiful and so natural looking. People I work with are surprised when I say that this is not my natural color, they just figured I was a natural blonde. I LOVE the work Michael does and wouldn't trade him for the world!!!
Pros: Professional, Highly skilled, Good atmnosphere
Cons: n/a

After searching for a colorist and stylist for what has seemed like too long.........I found Christine (colorist-Mill Valley) and Christa (stylist-Post/mill valley). Their skill and technique surpassed all my expectations. From consultation to the final "do" I felt like they both listened, communicated and translated their vision with mine. You can pay to be a model and whine about the results or find the real deal on the floor and get what you want.
Pros: Professional, communicative, experienced

I paid full price and got a color specialist from this salon (Monica at Post Street) who knew what she was doing. My hair looks fantastic and that translates to elevated self-esteem. It's worth every cent. If you're willing to pay less and see a student, it's risky. As a faux finish artist myself, I can say that as my skill increased, my prices increased. What that looks like in hair is color that accentuates my skin tone, looks natural, and is easy to touch-up later. I recommend spending the extra cash and getting it done right so that you can move through the world with more confidence.
Pros: Exact color, Natural look, Professionalism
Cons: Cost
