Very nice place to get a couple bottles of wine at below restaurant prices while enjoying mediocre food and excellent conversation. The limited wine list offers a mostly California selection of well-known producers. Even amateur wine lovers will recognize producers like Beaulieu Vineyards and Ravenswood from supermarket shelves. An occassional Bordeaux or Chilean red can be found on the list, but it's unlikely for one to discover any unknown vintages from the rather limited selection. Nevertheless, the casual pub-like atmosphere and affordable prices bridge the gap between unpretentious dive and intimidating wine bar.

I really love sake, so I was excited to check out the Noc Noc, a beer and wine bar on Haight Street that specializes in sake. I met some friends over there and we got a delicious milky sake and some beers. The interior of this place is crazy: it looks like a cave, with big slabs of rock serving as tables. It reminded me of something out of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Strange, but definitely worth checking out.

One of San Francisco's Best Hidden Treasures. The staff was very knowledgeble and suggested the right wine for the occasion. I also tried the sake cocktails and I thought that they were out of this world... and very creative. I highly recomend this Spot if if your looking for a good place to have quality wines and sake cocktails. Bacchus is a must!

This is a cozy little bar with it's score of regulars and a nice little fire to warm yourself by while sampling some of their pub grub.
The food is good and has great portions and service is great. The Iirsh style baked potatoe skins are a real winner, as is there other Irish specialities, such as Irish breakfast and Shepherds Pie.
Great home style cooking at a good price.
The bouns is the entertainment often provided by the regulars.

If you like to drink beer out of a jar, under the stars with the option to feast on hot grilled hamburgers or hotdogs, all the while fearing (okay, secretly hoping) a wild biker dude will come tearing through on his hog, then Zeitgeist is your place. Even if you just like one of those things...Zeitgeist is your place. If you're really lucky Virginia, aka the Tamale Lady, will swing by with cooler full of hot, fresh goodness to sate your drunken munchies. And if the prospect of standing line to pee is the scariest thing you can imagine, there's never a wait for the port-a-potties in the back.

When I first moved to San Francisco, I noticed this little place kitty corner from my apartment called the Hyde Out. I thought it looked so cozy and appealing. It is a two story bar, with the first story consisting of a bar with some stools and a few tables scattered around. The second floor is just tables, with windows going around the whole room. The whole place is tiny, and its a great place to go if you live in the neighborhood and you're looking for an intimate place to have a good chat with a friend, or enjoy a book. Think coffeehouse, but with stiffer drinks.

I've always found the Bay Area's Ethiopian offerings lackluster at best. When I've lived in other cities, it's been a stable cuisine with several trusty restaurants in my dining portfolio. Not so much here, and I've tried the places that seem to be favorites. Proof that I'm not just a restaurant poopy pants (I do miss my favorite place in D.C., but swear, I'm open to new experiences) arrived in the form of Club Waziema. This is a strange place, a divey sports bar with funky wall paper, amateurish art, and a very out-of-place pool table. There's also a tiny, closet of a kitchen where a grandmotherish lady cooks up perfect vegetarian Ethiopian fare. They have all-you-can-eat nights that are a total bargain, just be prepared to wait since the food takes its time…

The drinks at the Buddha Lounge are cheap and delicious. I recommend you to play a game of liars here. The location is great since the Buddha Lounge is right in the middle of Chinatown. The bartender (Marc) is pretty crazy and wacky. Although it’s a small place, the music is definitely great.
