Maybe this place isn't for everyone; it's a lot of the young, brash and vigorous pierced and tattooed crowd. But I happen to be part of that crowd, and I've never felt more welcomed in a bar in my (short) life. One of the bartender/bouncers has now given me two drinks out of sympathy for my troubles with withdrawing cash on my card, everyone there has been very friendly, the music is always fun even when it's not really my thing... I love the Lex!

Admittedly, I've never been inside the Lex. But hoooo boy have I heard some gnarly stories about what goes on in the bathroom. As far as I know, this is the most hardcore lesbian bar in the city, and as much as I'd like to go in, when I'm walking past, I get attitude if there seems to be any intention on my part that I want to take a look and check the place out. Funny thing about diverse SF, it's not always the most tolerant of diversity (see also: sociosexual sun bathing divisions of Dolores Park).
