My sister had been here for a beer after work and liked it (although she and her friend where the only people there) so we decided to come by on a Saturday before going to some clubs in the area.
Let me first point out that I am not Asian which makes it a bit odd to walk in here, since I was tallest that any of the other 6 people in the bar (it was early). We decided to have a drink and a bite to eat. The food was average at best and the drinks were just BAD (Vodka Tonic was actually Soda water with a splash of vodka, and the Lemon Drop was tasteless).
That said, the service was very good and everyone there was really nice.
I don't think I would go back here.
Pros: Good service, thats the only pro I can think of
Cons: Bad drinks, ok food, dirty bathroom in an empty bar,

The every day crowd consists of the same alcoholic retirees sipping old school cocktails and making very slow small talk you would expect to find at most SF neighborhood bars. The bartender is sweet but is prone to "accidents" like salt on the rim of lemon drops and sugar on the rim of margaritas. The night time crowd is skewed younger on weekends.

We went there for an early dinner before a Giants game; didn't know that their happy hour is from 5:00p to 7:00p Monday to Saturday. We were told that we had 40 minutes to order maki and bottled sake at half price. Unfortunately, we're not Sake drinkers. The music was kind of loud and so were the people. Tables were spaced close together. The service was okay. Most of the fish was fresh, but pretty pricey.
- Hamachi stuffed shiitake: the fish was so fishy that we couldn't eat it. The tempura wasn't nearly as crispy as the waitress had described.
- Tuna carpaccio: the fish seems fresh, but it's difficult to tell because it was drenched in turffle oil.
- Kobe beef tataki: the meat was slightly tough and not marbled like Kobe beef should. The seasoning was well balanced and interesting.
- Tekka maki: fish was fresh but very little
- California roll: surprisingly that the crab meat was NOT imitation and it was good. Gave them an extra point for that.
- Hamachi and Avocado maki: fresh fish, just the right amount of rice and thinly sliced scallions on the outside. My favorite of the evening.
- Hamachi nigiri: fish was fresh, but again very little of it
Our waitress was nice enough to give us half off of the Hamachi stuffed shiitake, since we mentioned to her that it was very fishy. A quick dinner for two with a bottle of wine ($35) was over $120, even at happy hour. Most likely we won't go back again.
Pros: Close to the ballpark
Cons: Fishy stuffed shiitaki and noisy

12 Galaxies is a pretty nice place to see a show for small to mid-sized acts. The sound can be really good and the place is big enough that the main floor can be quiet while talkers can chat away at the bar or go upstairs.
My biggest gripe with the place is the staff, mainly the bouncers. It seems that if there aren't any problems form them to deal with, they will start harassing the closest person. I've witnessed this several times. From calling someone a "gay" to grabbing girls' asses, these guys will do anything they can on their power tripped out shift and as soon as you ask them to leave you alone, they reveal themselves as staff and have you removed. Pretty nice huh? Staff person named Mike seems particularly meth'd up over a fresh shot of steroids. If the management can cage those animals back in the zoo, this would be a really great place.

In Short Tempest is mostly filled with scruffy bike messengers and local lushes, but the occasional newspaper staffer from the nearby Chronicle stops in for a microbrew after work. The aesthetic is utilitarian--the square room has brick walls, a cement floor and is decorated with Christmas lights. The tables are made of particleboard and the chairs look like they came from a convention center closeout sale.

I like the decor and the staff is very nice. Not a lot of people there on a Friday night. I think they need to get better talent. Go there with your friends if you're interested in dancing and drinking. It's for those nights you don't care who's there or if it's a popular spot.

Elixir is a decent little neighborhood bar. It's a solid, hanging out, beer-drinking bar (which, I have to say, are few and far between in San Francisco compared to other places I've lived.) No frou frou drinks here. You don't have to be a Mission hipster to get served (although you'll definitely spot a few while you're there) and if you were to order a PBR here it's because you actually like the taste, although their offerings are pretty varied and usually feature some interesting German and Belgian names.
Best of all: on Tuesday nights, they have pub quiz. So grab some smarty-pants friends, some drinkin' hats and go vie for a free round -- or several. (First prize is a $30 tab, if memory serves, although the memory is usually pretty fuzzy by the end of the night.)

This place will really make you feel transported out of the city into a swanky vietnamese plantation. That said: the food is very pricy and not a great value. I recommend not going on a major holidy such as new years. This is a great date place and also excellent for people watching. Take a cab or pay for valet.

Take all the arrogance in San Francisco and distill it to fit in a hot, stuffy bar and youve got The Loading Dock. I dont know how all these egoists were able to find each other. Did the bar take out an ad that began Are you too good for all the other bars? What completely floored me was that the attitude knew no boundaries. Young, old, tall, short, fat, thin, handsome, and homely. Conceit was bountiful. I suppose haughtiness loves company. Perhaps the attitude comes with the uniform fetish. On the plus side, the staff is friendly and pleasant and the drinks are stiff. The space itself is well designed but needs considerable ventilation. Each time Ive been there its been torrid. Unless you enjoy standing and modeling all night in a steam bath, go elsewhere. I think this place cured me of my uniform curiosity.
Pros: friendly staff, good drinks, nice space
Cons: arrogant crowd, too hot, needs ventilation
