If you're in the Richmond District, don't forget to stop at Sugar Bowl restaurant. They make the best madeline cookies. You can find these cookies at Costco or Walgreens but if you want some freshly made, get them at the restaurant. The cookies are the restaurant's prized possession. If you have time, get a few and have them with a cup of hot coffee.

After seeing dozens upon dozens of Sugar Bowl Bakery commercials on television these last two years or so, I finally decided to pay the bakery a visit. This is considered going out of my way, as there are literally more than two dozen bakeries in the neighborhood I live in, Chinatown. But the visit was well worth it. Sugar Bowl bakery did not disappoint in showing me that even the simplest snacks and desserts could be done really well and made deliciously. The only problem I had was that their food was a bit pricey; then again, I am comparing prices between this gourmet bakery shop and the small, privately-owned bakery shops in San Francisco's Chinatown. Highly recommended.

This place is great for two reasons. One is the food. There is a small restaurant here that serves American breakfast and Vietnamese/Chinese food. It is reasonable and tasty. The baked goods such as donuts are also pretty good. On top of that, it's the only place where I've ever bought winning SuperLotto tickets. So grab some food and try your luck here.
