I was looking forward to going here, since I love sourdough bread so much. I was not disappointed. We took my daughter through the tour, and saw it being made, and got to taste some of the fresh bread. It was fun to see all the different shapes they made the bread into. My daughter was enthralled with the baskets of bread being transported continuously overhead. We had lunch in the cafe, the bread bowl with chowder is the best, and the service was great too!

I once had the pleasure of visiting the Sourdough Bakery located at the Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. It was truly and entertaining visit. I hear that the clam chowder there is exquisite. The decorations there are also very creative. It seems as if you are walking into more of a Sourdough factory. There are many decorations MADE of sourdough bread, such as bread lobsters and animals as well.

I love getting Fisherman's Warf clam chowder in the bread bowl, but most of the good places have no seating area. Boudin Bakery is famous for their Chowder bread bowls and their clam chowder is not too shabby. The lines are long, but they move quickly and their staff works very efficiently. Takes about ten minutes from getting in line to getting your food. And unlike most of the other clam chowder places, this place looks a lot more sanitary.

What I love about Boudin is that they cater to the clam chowder hater I am and have corn chowder in a bread bowl. They also have amazing sourdough bread. Don't be fooled by the gourmet restaurant on the top though....they charge about 3 dollars extra from the same soup and the atmosphere isn't all that great. I suggest the small bakery at the bottom where there is a tourist line but you can get a mean sandwich and some great desserts.

People know Boudin for their famous breads but they also have a cafe where they sell sandwiches, clam chowder and even pizza. Their sandwiches are excellent and so are their clam chowders. They only have a few cafes in the Bay area so whenever I happen to be near one I make sure I go there and buy my favorites.
