Some cool displays, but very small, don't waste your time making this a day trip.If you have a Citypass, and are already at Pier 39 or wharf area, check it out, for a little break. It was quite busy inside, but nice if you don't pay full price. Good for kids if you have them, and you get to pet some animals (sea stars, sea urchins, leopard sharks, etc).
Pros: Petting animals
Cons: Only good if part of Citypass, otherwise too expensive, tourist trap

We visited the aquarium whilst on a coach tour of the Western states in October 2001. Travelling from Britain we were disappointed when it rained on our free day in San Francisco, but our disappointment didn't last long once we entered this fabulous attraction. The sea life is amazing, well shown and the staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. It's fantastic walking through the underwater tunnel seeing sharks and rays swimming around you, there is relaxing music and afterwards you can touch some of the sealife. I hope I get a chance to go back.
Pros: Relaxing, Fascinating, varied
Cons: none

It's a rather small aquarium but what they have is very very cool. The two tunnel tanks are amazing -- you see some small and midsized sharks, schools of sardines, and the plexiglass is so clear and clean that you really feel you're in the water with them. The touch tanks are a big plus. I was grinning from start to finish. There is a lot of staff and they are very friendly and professional. Upkeep is good. It's a little expensive for the admission price, but I hear they are not making money and considering everything that went into the place it's a decent value.
Pros: beautiful fish, friendly staff, views of bay
Cons: cost, touristy surroundings
