My GF and I went to SF to celebrate our 1 year anniversary and wanted to do so without an agenda. So, we dropped into Yoshi's for dinner and sort of walked around afterwards to soak in the evening. We came across Sheba on a fluke. The live music that we heard coming from the lounge sucked us in. When we'd entered, the lighting was dim and there was this ambiance that made us immediately relax. It's a small, intimate, venue with lots of brown and gold with an orange glow. There was a light smell of incense filling the air. The crowd was mellow as they quietly socialized, some were couples and some were in groups.
We'd felt it out at first by going to the bar and ordering a drink. The bartender was attentive and quickly responsive. I appreciated how well he catered to us. There were couches by a fireplace that looked very cozy, but we decided to find a table, instead. As we were about to grab the first table we saw which was located in the back, a woman had asked us to hold on as she hurried towards the front and prepared a table for us so we could see the band. I believe she was the manager. We didn't even request this and she took it upon herself to make sure we had a great view. It was awesome and made us feel very welcomed. The band (we never got their name although I'm definitely going to call to find out!) was spectacular! Their style was like a combination of Erykah Badu, Lenny Kravitz, and Roberta Flack. The music had a great groove, extremely romantic, and spewed this undeniable sexiness. It made a wonderful setting for a wonderful evening.
So, in a nutshell, I'll definitely make it a point to go back and would recommend this place to anybody wanting to simply unwind and hang out someplace with a cozy, comfortable, romantic atmosphere.
Pros: Sheba has a warm environment and a very romantic setting.
Cons: Honestly, I saw no flaws.

sawa is the best ethiopian in SF. I haven't been to azmara in berkeley, which i've heard is good, but i've been to all of tseguy's restaurants here in the city--he used to own new eritrea on irving-- and his food is amazing. i love it! it's good to order in advance and take it to go.
Pros: great food and lots of it
Cons: sometimes take awhile to get it

Great restaurant!! The atmosphere is pretty with maps and pictures on the wall. There's a little bar that's looks charming with the glass lamps. It's usually pretty quite there though, so actually, the bar is a little unnecessary. However, if you want a fairly quiet comfortable place to enjoy a meal, than this place is great. The food is great too - good sized portions for fairly inexpensive prices! Ethiopian food is fun to have on a date. Since you'll be handling your food, it's a great ice-breaker! Lastly, they also have a a pretty good variety of drinks for a small restaurant - wines from different regions like Chile or Africa, bottled beers, sweet wines, steamed milk, and ethiopian coffee!!

Massawa serves authentic Eritrean dishes family-style at very reasonable prices. Some of my favorites are zigni (very spicy beef), and sambusas (pastry dough with spicy filling). Entrees are served much like curry, and diners scoop the food up in sour bread called ingera, with their hands. Fun, exotic, and delicious, for a reasonable price (combination plates are about $11). Service is friendly and fast.
