I only discovered the Turquoise a year or two ago, and it is hands down my favorite place for dinner and drinks; first it's the ambience that hooked me, but the food is amazing, the service is friendly and attentive, the music is wonderful, and everyone is smiling--it’s really out of this world. I actually took a picture of my dish on Mother’s Day last year because it was such perfectly crafted haute cuisine, it was delectable, and yet it’s very inexpensive! Even better, I just discovered that they've added a bunch of new things to the menu, and they’re offering a new happy hour menu that’s fantastically reasonable (3$, if I remember correctly, for the tapas, and the portions are huge). Furthermore, the live music has been remarkable (jazz, blues, or flamenco, they change it up). This place is so civilized, sophisticated, and at the same time the height of decadence, and the owner has taken care of all the details: even the ladies’ bathroom is beautiful! I’m so glad he brought this little slice of Spain to PB; I can’t sing its praises highly enough!
Pros: great food, service, music, and best ambience in town
Cons: none, it's reasonably priced and very consistent

We went here on a recommendation to start out a Girls Night Out. When we got there for our 7pm reservation, we found out it was happy hour until 8 and that meant 1/2 price EVERYTHING... drinks, food and WINE menu! We knew it was tapas so we ordered a bunch of plates to share but no one told us that these are fairly good size portions for "tapas" and we were totally stuffed before we got to dessert. : ( We left a lot of food on the table un eaten but only because we were full... the food was awesome. When the bill came it was $45 each for 5 of us to have way too much food and 3 bottles of good wine. I will say we might have made slightly different menu choices if it weren't 1/2 price... but we prolly could have done with about 1/2 the food we ordered. Oh and they were totally accomodating for a couple vegetarian requests also.
Pros: Happy Hour
Cons: Low table height

I got suckered into going to this place for a night out on the town and wasn't really into it at first. The place is super big and there wasn't a whole lot of action in the space. To my dismay at around 10 o'clock people started coming in to check out the band and the place got really busy.
The drinks were good and the food was nice but it was the ambiance of the place that did it for me. Everyone was having a good time. Definitely a place I am looking forward to trying out again.
I can't speak for any other night then Friday because I think that is the only night they have live music.
It also has an outdoor patio which looked like it would be cool for lunch out in the sun.
Pros: Awesome Service, Good Food, Cool Environment
Cons: Downtown

We were surprised to read negative reviews of our favorite bar. The "con" I mentioned above would matter more if we had anything to complain about. Food is delicious, sangria is great (at 8$ a pitcher at Happy Hour, it's awesome). The service we have received has been pretty good. It can falter a little when the restaurant is full, but it hasn't been a big deal. We have a toddler and they have always accomdated us (and him) with a gracious attitude. The patio allows both dogs and kids, and we come in the afternoons for HH. The gambas a la plancha, sangria. calamari, fresh bread and aioli (gratis) are all great.
Pros: unbeatable Happy Hour
Cons: not willing to change or listen to customer concerns

Hillcrest's Bite is the small plate brainchild of celebrated chef Chris Walsh (of Cafe W and Confidential) and partner Sam Cuevas. The cuisine here is a mixture of Northern Italian and French Bistro, but definitely with a touch of good old American comfort food. The dishes run from the typical yet scrumptious (the Fontina and Cremini Mushroom Grilled Cheese Baguette) to the interesting (the Butternut Squash Gnocchi with Scallops) to the straight up divine (the Lobster bisque). Bite also boasts a decent sized wine list along with several house infused sakes and some whimsical fruit sodas for mixing. Like to ask a lot of questions? The staff is not only friendly, but everyone from the bussers and runners to the host are knowledgeable about the menu. Not looking to spend a fortune? A four-course prix fixe menu is offered every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night for just over $20, as well as ? off bottles of wine on Mondays and a champagne happy hour every day. From amuse bouche to the very last bite of dessert, Bite will give you a meal that is fresh, comforting and, most importantly, delicious.

We just went there last Friday night. The food was great from the specials to what was on the menu. The place was not busy at all, which was a bit of a concern, but maybe people just need to know about it, because the food was very, very good. Service was good also. Then we headed up to the Altitude Sky bar. That was very nice. These are great places to enjoy a great meal and a great view and some drinks afterwards. Very nice evening out.
Pros: The food, everything was great
Cons: Non

Hello Everyone,
Thank you for taking the time to visit our page on Citysearch!
Although we have been in the restaurant industry for a long time and own Market Street Cafe in beautiful San Marcos, we are newcomers to Hillcrest. We feel most privileged to be so warmly welcomed by many in this exceptionally vibrant community.
We try to be the best we can be so that you can enjoy some good food and enjoy a relaxing time while enjoying your favorite wine--or discover new favorite ones--or simply enjoy a refreshing cocktail in a friendly and warm ambience. Deyna, our sommelier, makes sure that the wine selection is fresh and exciting. We believe that her selections are so innovative and compelling that we think you'll want to taste many of the wines that comes from all over the world; so we decided to offer all our wines by the half glass, the glass, and of course by the bottle. Perhaps we can tempt you with a personalized cheese selection from our extensive cheese board?
We are now open for lunch Saturday from 11:30 AM until 4:00 PM. We serve dinner every night starting at 3:00 PM. We offer brunch every Sunday from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM. All our wines by the bottle are half price" every Tuesday night. We like Happy Hour so much, that we decided to offer it seven days a week, even on Sundays. Why not! :-)
If you are looking for a welcoming place for your rehearsal dinner, a birthday party, or to reward your employees for their optimum productivity, let us design a special menu for you and your group.
EXTRA! EXTRA! Read the fabulous review written about Cafe Bleu in this month's edition of The San Diego Magazine (May 2008). A not to be missed, see Cafe Bleu's segment featured on CBS Chanel 8 News (May 2008) by logging in onto our website.
Thanks again to everyone. If you have any question, please just call. We'll be happy to help you in any way we can!
The staff at Cafe Bleu :-)
Pros: Great French influenced food & wine in a wonderfully warm atmosphere
