When we noticed a bug (it looked like a fly) in the dish, we called the
owner over to see it. She stood there looking at us for a few seconds,
without saying a word and just left. No replacement of the dish.
Not even an apology!! When we refused to pay for the dish, she gave
us the money back with a nasty face. Still, no apology. Even though the food wasn't good and one of the dish had a bug inside, we still left tips. Shortly after we left the restaurant, she came after us, told us "You people don't pay for the food you eat?" (she said it in very rude taiwanese). We were all confused until she told us we
did not pay for an appetizer which was only $2.50. We told her it is their mistake that they forgot to include that on the bill. And she replied that it is customer's job to go through the bill and point out anything missing. She then took the $3 we gave her, without giving us changes back, without a word, and just left. This is just an awful experience for us. The food tasted just OK, though high priced for he quality and definitely horrible customer service. After talking about this incident with friends, it turned out that we are not the only ones who found bugs in the dish and greeted with poor service. You might want to think twice before your visit.

Pros: They offer many Taiwanese dishes
Cons: Poor service, poor quality of food, not clean

This is perhaps my favorite Chinese restaurant in all of San Diego. I like this restaurant for three reasons. One, the people that work here are very honest and nice. The reason I say this is because one time I left a wallet full of credit carts and more than 200 dollars of cash and they held onto my wallet and gave me back everything in it. The second reason I like them is because the food is very quick and yummy. The third reason I like this is because the food is very inexpensive. One of my favorite dishes is the stinky tofu. Don't bag it till you tried it.

Finally--a place to eat Taiwanese food in San Diego! Contrary to what lots of people think, all Chinese food is not alike, and Taiwanese food is definetly a specialty. This is the only place I've found in our city, which serves Taiwanese dishes. They carry things like stinky tofu (a must) and have the best beef noodle soup I've ever tried. Prices are cheap ($6 for a big bowl of noodles). They also do a typical Taiwanese breakfast, complete with soybean milk, onion rolls, and fried dough. Good eating.
PROS: Taiwanese food at its best in San Diego

Most of the food is pretty good -- depends on what you order; i got mixed opinions on that place
Dont get the boba milk tea though, it's a LITTLE watered down...

I love this place, the people are always so friendly and the food is always served at a reasonable time and the taste is always, always great! The portions are very generouos and I promise you won't be disappointed. It's open until 12/1-ish, so you'll always have time!

168 locates inside the 99 ranch market. It offers mainly Taiwanese dishes. If you are not a high demanding in cleanness, then this is okie to go in SD. It is more like a take out and to go type of restaurant but, certainly there are spaces for seatings. The chicken steak rice is most students’ favorite order and the contents include a marinated egg, seasonal veggies, and spicy radish/ pickled veggie which tastes a little sweet (my favorite). 168’s food is not bad, but the service is not that descent. The owners themselves are nice, but the people they hired were not. I dined in there with other friends once, and we were not able to finish our shared dishes and rice. When I asked for a to-go box, the waitress gave me a none polite glance and said in Chinese “these are not a lot of food in each dish, and you still want to make them to go!?” Without hesitation, I shrugged my shoulders, replied “yes” and thought it should be out of her business. I packed all the food and turned out I had 2/3 of the box filled. Her attitude did not let us feel comfortable.

As far as fairly priced Chinese food goes, 168 Restaurant certainly is a good deal. The food is somewhat of a mixed bag. Most of the time, you can find some good food there, but there were a few instances where the food did not reach my expectations. I especially like ordering the rice dishes to go, as the portions are generous and the price is fair. Another reason for getting the food to go is that the service there sometimes can be a little subpar. But hey, if you get it to go, you can still enjoy the good food.
