My fiance and I went here to check it out as an idea for our wedding location! We were so impressed with the service, the food and the decor that we decided this was going to be our place. The restaurant was built in the 1950's and is all polynesian-tiki style. The great big windows over-look San Diego's harbor and the tables are lit with candles at dinner time. The dining experience is almost like a very romantic getaway dinner on an island! Unfortunetly, our small wedding budget didn't allow for the extravagance of the restaurant, so we married at a friend's home. I still wish we would have taken out a loan and married at the Bali Hai. Super fabulous place!

I've only been here for drinks and appetizers in the little bar area. I enjoy the classic kitsch factor of this place. The view are great and parking is always easy. It's nice to go for a stroll around Shelter Island either before or after your meal. Yes, the mai tais are strong. They have a banquet room downstairs and it is popular for events. Definately worth checking out, if just for the mai tais. The pupu platter (hah ... I love to say that word) has a nice appetizer assortment that is perfect for sharing with a few people.

This place has been around for ages. Entrees include favorites Firecracker Seared Ahi, Salmon Wellington and Chicken Portuguese plus all your Hawaiian and Polynesian yummies. And most are just under $20 and that includes a house salad AND a bowl of soup not too mention a wall of windows that looks over the water, and a view in the distance of the downtown skyline.
It's a good place to go before a Humphrey's concert - eat and drink here, and (safely) stumble across the street the your show. (They make a strong Mai Tai!)
Sidenote: My wife did mention a slight musty/mildew smell here that I didn't notice.

Every year my Cross Country team goes here for our Banquet and I couldn't ask that there be a better setting. Bali Hai is located right at the edge of the pier so you get a really good view of downtown. We've always eaten in a banquet fashion, which I really like, but I don't know how the sit down experience is like. The waiters always refill your drinks and they can assist you like nobody's business. If you had a DJ of somesort, Bali Hai would also make a good dance/ballroom.
