I just want to start off by saying I am not writing this to complain, but to warn people, as I wish I had been warned. I go to SDSU and was in a desperate need of a touch up, living 10 hours away from my hometown and regular hair stylist I tried to find a good salon in San Diego. I went into Disconnected Salon a little over a month ago to get the roots on my highlighted hair touched up. The girl who did my hair specifically asked my if I liked the color I currently had and I said yes, i only wanted my ROOTS done. We got into a little conversation and I told her how much I liked another stylist's platinum blonde hair, but also that I was a poor college student who could not afford to keep the roots up and also that my hair was very damaged from previous colorings and probably could not take anymore bleach. In the salon they do color in different chairs than they do the cutting in and they have no mirrors by them, so I could not see that when she was putting my foils in she wasn't just doing my roots but pulling the bleach all the way down to my tips. I did not know this until after my hair was washed. However, I am not a picky client and I did like the color, it just was not what I asked her to do. I liked how she cut and styled my hair... until I got home and could look at it closer. There was an obvious ring of brown roots around my face as well pretty large chunks of my brown roots that she missed entirely all over my head, my regular stylist referred to them as "tiger stripes." So I called the salon and they happily agreed to make me an appointment to get it fixed. The girl fixed most of the ring around my face, however there was still a rather large chunk of brown right in the middle of my forehead so I still couldn't pull my bangs back. Once again she styled it so that you couldn't tell until you got home and really looked at it. Just like I predicted my hair started breaking very easily from too much damage and my roots grew out in a month. So today, on my spring break in my hometown, I went to my regular stylist who was not only shocked at what a horrible dye job it was, but also that I payed $90 for the color alone. When she went to cut my hair she found that the bottom was extremely uneven, something I hadn't noticed on my own, and had random longer pieces. Everyone at the salon was extremely nice and welcoming and the salon was decorated pretty cool. However, those two things should never come before the quality of the work. I felt that this salon is EXTREMELY overpriced and for very poor work. My regular stylist does excellent cut AND color for the same price as just the color at Disconnected. To be honest, I also felt that they try and build themselves up online with websites like this and make themselves look better than they really are. I found it odd how easily I was able to get an appointment, how empty the salon was when I was there and that they took walk-ins. Maybe I should have taken the lack of clients as a hint.. All in all I would highly not recommend this salon to anyone unless you want a jacked up hair style. I am sorry for being so brutally honest, but I even gave her the opportunity to fix my color and it was still nowhere near a $90 highlight and even further from what I had asked for originally. Pros: extremely friendly, cool decorations Cons: very overpriced, bad cut and color

I am very picky when it comes to my salon and my hairdresser. I have gone to the same hairdresser for the past 6 years and have never been satisfied going to anyone else. Since I am from the silicon valley but attend school down here in San Diego, I knew I wouldn't be able to wait to get my hair done on vacations when I return home so I decided to search yelp for a good place. The first time I walked into the salon I was greeted by the very friendly staff and offered a drink. The overall look is very modern and sheik. They listened to exactly what I wanted done and delivered. My stylist Lindsay was very accommodating and made sure I was comfortable at all times. Everything about this experience was amazing. The scalp massage was amazing and their Bumble and Bumble products are superior to the other products I have tried, not to mention smell great. The color and cut was even better than I expected. My hair looked shiny and I have never had anyone straighten my hair as well as Lindsay. It always comes out shiny, soft, and PERFECT! I always get so many compliments on my hair after walking out of the salon. So for all those skeptical ones out there, I am assuring you, you will not be dissatisfied. You will LOVE this place!

You are in for an amazing experience at the DisConnected Salon. Call first and make an appointment: 619-298-3830. They accept those that walk-in as well. Rave reviews here was enough to make me give them a call. Sure glad I did. What a treat. The salon has only been open a couple of weeks, has very cool upbeat interior and a staff that is eager to please. I arrived 10 minutes early for my Saturday 10:30am appointment. Neal took me to the bar while I waited; coffee was served while I relaxed with a magazine. Neal came back in a few minutes with a smock to wear while Tera Lynn washed my hair. "Relax your head and let me do the work." We chatted. This 15 minutes was about the best in my life. Tera Lynn walked me over to meet Leesa, I had a seat. Leesa and I discussed the way ahead. She is an experienced profession with exceptional chair-side manners and a good sense of humor. While we talked she gave me a great cut. Then Tera Lynn took me back for a final wash and condition. Maybe the wash time is really the best part; forget the great cut and just go in and see Tera Lynn. The final wash ended with a hot towel over the face to calm and relax. (You will feel like a new person.) Back to Leesa for the final groom and touch up if needed. When we were done Leesa walked me to the front, I paid, tipped both and left with a big wave from all. Do yourself a favor. Go see them!
