There is something new to see every time you visit.The Ocean Oasis is a well known exhibit featuring the beauty of the biodiversity of California coast. The San Diego Natural History Museum is a favorite with my nieces. I think it's pretty cool two. The musuem features some permanent exhibits, and also roates some exhibits. The recent exhibit on Southern California fire ecology was amazing and informative. The museum runs a variety of classes and field trips that are open to the public. Members of the museum enjoy a discount on these trips. Definately check it out!

With fossils peppering the enormous entryway, one is excited to spend an entire day getting lost in the seemingly huge museum. This is not the case. The traveling exhibit area downstairs is the highlight of the place and has some decent exhibits, but that's all. There are 3 floors open to the public, the second having a movie theatre and the rest of the floor housing an exhibition of mediocre art about nature. The third floor was blocked off to the public (at least when I was there), so I felt the hour-lonng experience was not worth the ticket price. With another exhibit hall or without the animal art, maybe.

The San Diego Natural History Museum has two of my favorite "exhibits" ever. They are what they call "living exhibits" and by that, they mean you can watch people performing tasks that you don't see often anymore. One is a man weaving -- he does everything by hand, and you can see what the whole arduous process entails and almost imagine yourself back in the day when everything was made by hand this way. The second is a woman who makes tortillas. You can actually buy her handmade tortillas (which taste so different from the ones you buy at the store, even the "handmade" ones there) as a quesadilla. They do seem to have interesting "normal" exhibits here too -- not your typical boring natural history ones. Currently it is one on backyard insects, prior to that was one on chocolate (and its history). They also have programs sponsored by the museum, and they all sound so interesting that I can't decide which ones I'd like to sign up for -- they range from vineyard tours in nearby Mexico, to kayaking, to regional cooking classes, to mushroom hunting. I salute their program director who has certain kept things interesting and make learning fun. On this note, I like how they have exhibits that are on "trial" and are looking for feedback on before they design the permanent exhibit. I think this is a great tactic to get the public involved. The admission is a bit pricey for a museum I find -- I guess it is to encourage memberships.

Come here early because there’s so much to see! It is a huge museum located at Balboa Park. When you walk in, you are greeted by a huge compass. They have models of animals, a huge dinosaur skeleton, and other figures to promote the understanding of nature in Southern California. They also offer a variety of exhibitions. I went to the museum when they had an exhibit about chocolate. They also have films and public programs.

I really liked this place because as a girl who grew up in the country, I have a profound appreciation for wildlife and nature in general. There are exhibitions all year round on such diverse subjects as wildlife, fossils, insects, fruit flies and DNA, and even chocolate. A must see for all people visiting San Diego.

This is one of my favorite museums in Balboa Park. There are so many different things to see. They have Giant Screen Films that are really fun to watch. One of the exhibits I really like is a photography exhibit that shows how Baja California and Southern California has changed over the years. The current exhibits they have include an exhibit about fire, a giant bug exhibit and a fossil exhibit. You should definitely visit this fun museum.
