When my husband and I found the Venetian, I couldn't believe our luck! My husband, being Italian, is very picky about Italian food. So, at our first visit, I set myself up for a disappointing meal. However, the ONLY disappointing moment was the fact that we were unable to eat it all! Their red sauce has amazing flavor, in both the pasta dishes as well as the pizza. The service is wonderful - you are always met with smiling faces - and the atmosphere is great. We have never had a meal there we didn't love, and every time we have friends in town visiting, this is the first place we take them. I highly recommend taking the time to try the Venetian - you won't be sorry!
Pros: Excellent Food and Pizza

drank to much "we took a cab" and above all
were treated like kings& queens. So two
thumbs up and enjoy.

When I moved to Cabo 4 years ago I was dissapointed there wasn't an italian restaurant that comes close to the venetian.
When I come to San Diego I make it a point to have dinner at the Venetian. I am always greeted warmly by Joey Giacalone (part of the family) and the staff is also very friendly. They even remember my name!!
There is nothing more enjoyable and relaxing than sitting at the bar, sipping a glass of wine and ordering an appetizer before dinner. There is great conversation with the frequent locals and the bartenders.
When I do get to my table it is in a lovely garden room and I always receive great, prompt service. The food is fabulous and the portions are so huge that there is always a leftover for the next day.
I highly recommend The Venetian to anyone who enjoys a great friendly, family restaurant with the best italian food in town.
I cannot wait to get back to San Diego this Summer!!!
THANKS VENETIAN FOR BEING THERE!!!
Pros: great leftovers
Cons: I am not able to eat there enough.

This cozy, neighborhood Italian restaurant is my families' favorite place in town. We have been going for the past 4 years since moving to the Point Loma area. Everyone that works there, from the bus boy Michael, Ryan, Quinn to the waiters and waitresses, Jess, Hannah, Patrick, Jeanine, to the owners, Joey and Frank works their tails off to make us feel like we are extremely welcome. We feel that this is an extension of our home and know other "regulars" must too, because we see the same crowd frequently. It is an incredibly vibrant place that is fun in a relaxed way. There is no pretense about this restaurant. It is whatever you want it to be. If you are looking for a low-key night, you can wear jeans and a t-shirt and not get funny looks. You can also make this place a formal venue to celebrate intimate moments with loved ones. We oftentimes celebrate birthdays and anniversaries here. The crew has a good feel of what we are looking for and caters very well to the evening that we have in mind. The food is ridiculously good and incredibly priced for the portion size. Everyone that I have brought here has made this a regular stop on their circuit of restaurants. Joey, the owner, has even given some of these folks his cell phone number to better cater to their needs. We are very thankful to have found this neighborhood gem and the friendships that it has given us.

Dear Trashy Reviews:
I couldn't agree more. The reason the restaurant is so trashy is because the brothers are low-class morons. Who know little or nothing about fine Italian cuisine or culture. That is why the atmosphere is so tacky -- a kind of faux noir of ghetto-Italian taste.
As for the food, nothing is prepared fresh except for the salads, sandwiches, and pizza -- with the latter being good but greasy and old school that ignores the calories. Everything else is prepared and frozen for next day or days ... So, the Venetian is "acceptable' when it comes to Italian food (note that I didn't say cuisine). As for the cheesy restaurant atmosphere, well "Casino" and a la retro Italiano club scene comes to mind -- what do you expect from restaurateurs like the Giacolones who are anything but "genuises."
As I said about the Giacolone brothers earlier, they are creme de la creme morons. Joey Giacolone is "barely" a high school graduate who pretends to be something else. His mal-command of the English language can be revealing. Basically, he is an insouciant idiot who has only achieved a measure of success through nepotism -- ask Joey what that means. As a former employee of Joe many, many years ago, I discovered that he possessed an irrepressible superiority complex that had no foundation in reality.
Matter of fact, I learned personally from Joey under his employment which he had a habit of bragging about, that the only reason he graduated high school was due entirely to having a surrogate student complete his required coursework -- had sad is that statement, but Joey was proud of it. He seemed to have delusions of grandeur owing entirely to some filial station in life which I personally found not only annoying, but truly pathetic knowing his family and educational background.
As for Frank Giacolone, he makes the glacial drift seem like the autobahn -- I think he was congenitally impaired (mildly retarded) but his brother didn't admit it.

I have been going to this restaurant for years. The works pizza, chicken picatta, and the anipasto salad are my family standards whenever we go in or have take out. Also there is a scallop plate that my husband swears by. Love the family atmosphere, in fact the family that owns this restaurant. the Giacalones have also made us feel like more than family whenever we go in. Great place, great food!

Always a favorite when in Point Loma. The food is consistently good and the service as well. The Venetian has been around for a very long time and has proven that it has lasting power.
