If you haven't indulged yourself in Mama's chicken shwarma, you haven't tasted authentic Lebanese cuisine! Mama's Bakery and Deli is home to the only "Saj" in San Diego. The Saj is a special convex oven that allows the cooks to recreate the true taste experience of Lebanon. If you have a weakness for deserts, they also have the best baklava in town. I would recommend Mama's for lunch or an early dinner (they are a family run restaurant, and they don't stay open late). Happy eating!

Cheese Shop has an incredible variety of local artisan cheeses to choose from, as well as locally grown vegetables and very lean, shaved meats. The meats are great, but vegetarians will really find this deli a veggie paradise. A veggie/cheese sandwhich is made to order, and can include up to four different cheeses. There are several freshly baked breads to choose from, including gluten-free and whole wheat varieties. The prices for a sandwhich are in the $5 range, making it a great lunch destination
*Caution*
Ex-girlfriend posted this for me from waaaaaay the H-E-double toothpick in Eau Claire, WI. She was out for the dinero, man! LOL!
If you look at my older posts and compare to my newer posts that I've personally written from sweet home San Diego, I think it is well defined which are from my talented mind and which aren't.

Green Light is a great destination for a fast and cheap lunch on the go. Lunch specials include coffee and a sandwich with kettle chips for $5. You'll be in and out with your lunch within 10 minutes. I recommend getting the homemade wheat bread and trying their roast beef sandwich with the horseradish sauce and provolone cheese. You can make substitutions to any of the sanwiches and they have a a lot of veggie toppings to choose from. I go here at least once a week!

Deli House offers a great selection of meats, all trimmed and cut right at the deli. You can even purchase the meat itself if you'd prefer to make your own sandwiches at home. The price per pound is actually cheaper than what's offered at the grocery store, and they offer hard-to-find deli meats like olive loaf and an all-beef bologna that's delicious. In addition, they bake their own bread fresh, daily. I love the honey wheat and french bread. You can build your own sanwhich, with a drink and kettle chips for $5. This makes for a great lunch desitination when you're running low on time but don't want fast food.

More
After sampling some of the local pizza joints, I have to say that my expectations were already quite low by the time we tried out our neighborhood pizza place.
The location of this restaurant is perfect -- right at the corner of a usually bustling intersection in South Park. You can sit by the window and watch the neighborhood's ebbs and flows.
We tried a basic pizza to test the waters -- mushroom and pepperoni. Non-pizza items (pastas) on the menu were rather pricy for the place -- more like an upscale restaurant's prices...but this place has plastic cups. The waitstaff was very polite and service was prompt. Our pizza arrived and we were dismayed to see that they used canned mushrooms. For an almost $20 pizza, that is kind of a travesty. The sauce didn't taste homemade and the pizza dough was so-so. It wasn't inedible but it was no gourmet pizza. Rather disappointing.
This place seems to be expanding and/or remodelling, so we're hoping that they perhaps get a new chef too. We could really use some more good restaurants in South Park.
