What can I say about the Bazaar Del Mundo? It's touristy, it's on the tacky side, and I absolutely loved it! Perhaps it's all the bright colors, mariachi music, or the pitcher of sangria I shared before visiting. Any way you visit, you'll be guaranteed a lively time. There's a ton of really cool boutique shops selling goods from local artisans and a few restaurants intermingled. Crowds get crazy during the summer, and it makes it uncomfortable to move around the tiny shops. Still, a touristy must-see!

For anyone who loves the feline-inspired artwork of Laurel Burch (like myself), this store is paradise. You can find everything from Burch socks to jewelry and wall art here. Prices are typical of what you'd find in a boutique store, but I've never seen a shop with a collection of Burch as extensive as this. The store is located in Bazaar Del Mundo, so be prepared for crowds of tourists.

Fashion Valley is Not my favorite spot!
I don't know how many times I've been there and noone acknowleges that you are there unless you are a celebrity or a friend. I literally stood at the counter for about 9 minutes before one of the three employees noticed me.I was going to leave but I thought I would humor myself to see just how long it would take.

Artes de Mexico is a really unique gift shop in Bazaar del Mundo that features handcrafted Mexican artwork and goods. Although the crowd is mostly touristy, the store offers some great pieces that would be good gifts or souvenirs. From paper flowers to items related to El Dia de los Muertos, Artes de Mexico is a must-see while in Old Town.

If you're looking for a one-of-a-kind souvenir while in San Diego, why not purchase something you can wear on a regular basis? Ariana, a boutique shop located in the Bazaar del Mundo shopping district, offers a wide selection of Mexican-inspired and designed apparel. I loved the colors and flowing fabrics-- if I could have found something in my size, I would have made a purchase!

Libros is one of those bookstores that stick in your mind years after you've visited. Tucked in a corner of Bazaar del Mundo, this bookstore features an eclectic selection of books and gift accessories for the bibliophile. The greeting card selection really stuck out to me as being quite unique -- this is a great place to get a card you know you can't find anywhere else. Lots of fun to browse, but the selection is pretty limited; it seems to suit the tourist crowd that frequents the store.

Harnish House is a wonderful retirement community that definitely has the feel of something much different. Indepence is encouraged here, and each unit comes with a full kitchen, though there are meals available in the community center for those who cannot always prepare meals for themselves. The building is very secure, and the grounds are immaculate, with gardens and flowers for the people living there to tend to. Planting and gardening are encouraged, and there are other activities right at the center for people to actively participate in, including fitness, tennis and swimming.

As a frequent concert goer, I dread having to go to the SD Sports Arena when my favourite bands come to town. Doesn't matter how great the musician or band, this venue makes them all sound like sh*t.
My first experience with the arena was at the tender age of five. Mickey On Ice was coming to town, so my much older sister took me. Fond memory!
All fondness went downhill from there... I've been avoiding the arena since my teens, knowing its reputation. But when U2 calls, I will follow! (Ha! Get it? I will follow...) Anyway... I sucked it up and got tickets for one of my top 3 favourite bands. They put on a grrrrrrrrrrrrreat show, but man did the acoustics suuuuuuuuuuck!
Previous to U2, I had seen Duran Duran and Sarah McLachlan and Butterfly Boucher at the arena. Alllllll great acts, but yeah....sound sucked. The last time I went to the Sports Arena, it was bought by iPayOne. As if the sports arena couldn't get worse.... The new management installed these fugly green lights around the arena and hired some new incompetents to work security. Same old rusty old 1970s era seats though. It was Depeche Mode that I saw this time around. Another top 3. Great show put on by Dave Gahan and the boys!
In conclusion, San Diego Sports Arena, iPayOne Center...Whatever you want to call it... It sucks, period. Bands I love, please book your shows at Cox Arena if you must stay indoors. Otherwise, book Coors! Its the best in SD!
