I love cheese and not only do they have a great selection but they change the selection from week to week so there is always something new to try at Venissimo. I recently bought a cheese plate for a wine and cheese party a friend was throwing and their cheese plate beat anything for sale at Costco or the various supermarket chains by a mile. As an added benefit the cost was about the same as if I bought a cheese plate at Costco. Pros: Best selection in town hands down. Cons: It's all the way down on Washington.

I cannot say enough good things about Gina Freize and her shop. Their selection is incredible and their staff really knows their stuff. They patiently wait while you try every cheese your heart desires. Describe your event or get together to them and they can tell you what cheese will work the best. I've used their suggestions 4 times in the last 3 months and except for one friend with no cheese savvy all their suggestions were a hit. They also carry all the extras you could ever want to accompany your cheese. You gotta check out the little spoon shaped crackers; add chunk of blue cheese and some honey and you won't be able to stop eating.

You'll definitely pay a pretty penny for the cheeses here, but that's probably because the gal that operates this place is so nice and so knowledgeable about her products. She has cheeses from every country, and always a good tip or two about what to serve them with and how to store them. Yum, yum!

We met the owner of this gormet cheese shop on Washington street at a cooking class she was hosting and she knows absolutely everything about cheese! She calls herself the cheese whiz so needless to say her shop holds an amazing selection of cheeses, and the best part of course is that they'll let you try every single one of them in the shop!! It was so fun to go in there and have a little tasting, I loved it!

Venissimo is a great local cheese supplier specializing in providing products to commercial vendors. They focus mainly on smaller "mom and pop" cafes and restaurants, and because they are a smaller business themselves, they really can't handle large orders for chain restaurants. Because they're small, the prices are higher, but the cheese is of a much better quality. They get most of their cheeses locally and this makes for a fresher and better tasting product. They do special orders and will seek out specialty cheeses at your request.
