5th Avenue Books

Stopped in here during the Cityfest they just had over in Hillcrest. It was a fun little shop with all sorts of random items. My favorite book was "everyone poops", but they had all sorts of interesting gifts. Lots of humour books, and fun little trinkets. Prices were also pretty good, so if you're looking for a cheap present, head here! more

My experience at 5th Avenue book store was a positive one. While I did not find the book I was after, I did enjoy my visit. Maybe it was the location of the store, but the customers and employees were all very friendly and eager to assist me. I spent an hour just in the spiritual book section reading snippets of each authors work. There was no pressure to buy anything, and it seemed more like a casual environment than regular book stores. I would recommend this to anyone in the area (or not). more

This is a large bookstore with almost every popular genre you can think of. Best of all, they have a respectably large selection of paper back Sci-Fi and fantasy titles, which may otherwise be hard to find at other national chain bookstores. Last time I was there, they had a huge sale with relatively newly published titles by big name authors at deeply discounted prices. Not a lot of seats if you want to plop down and read a little bit, but I would definitely recommend this place if you're into Sci-fi and fantasy novels. Overall, great bookstore with big selection and great bargain finds if you look for them. more

5th Avenue Books is really cool because they sell both new and used books at great prices! It's really fun to browse through all their titles. You can buy books here much cheaper than at Borders or Barnes and Noble and it's nice to support local businesses instead of big chains. Anyway, if you find yourself downtown, stop by the store one time. I guarantee you will be hooked! more

I was recently in San Diego on a business trip and had some time to kill one afternoon. I was in the Hillcrest Neighborhood and spotted 5th Avenue Books. They have a nice fiction section and have both new fiction titles and a used section as well. I picked up a couple of used books on the advice from someone working there, perfect for my flight back home. I'll definitely stop by there again next time I'm in town. more

An excellent deal for people who love books! Many of the books in this used book store are new, but only about five or six dollars, and those that are used are in great condition. You can purchase many books here that are available at bookstores that sell only new books for half the price. At first I started going there for convenience purposes, as it is located on the main strip in Hillcrest near my work, but kept going because it is so inexpensive, and they have such a great selection of books. They have a huge literature, psychology, sociology and philosophy sections, and there are definitely some treasures (though these tend to me more expensive) buried in there. I would definitely recommend buying (and selling) your books here - its a great deal! more
