My very favourite of all Ben and Jerry's ice creams is their Strawberry Cheesecake. It is amazing! The best part of it is the graham cracker swirl running through. Oh my gawwwwwwwd... My mouth is watering just thinking about it now. Happiness by the pint...

I'll confess straight up. I am a HUGE bread snob. I like it a certain way, or I don't like it much at all. It's got to be chewy, have some heft and flavor, and certainly none of that Wonder Bread stuff. Oh yeah, and I'd like some variety too. And baked goods are always welcomed.
Our relocation person was raving about this place so we immediately went to check it out. I was really hungry, so we got a sandwich, a baguette (always the "test" of a good bread), a cookie-bar thing, and a slice of a tart (like I said, I was hungry!) The sandwich was good -- certainly better than your average sandwich shop but nothing mindblowing. The baguette was average -- not terrible, but not fabulous either. The tart was delicious -- they did not scrimp on the filling, which is always a good thing.
Since then, I've made several trips back to Bread and Cie and have essentially determined that a) they seem to have a monopoly on the bread business in San Diego and b) their bread is pretty good, but nothing to get excited about. Certainly not a Parisian boulangerie!
If you don't get the bread directly from their store (many grocery stores stock it), it will likely be on the stale side. I would recommend only buying loaves directly from the store.
Parking can be a pain, as they are located right on University and the parking lot is pretty small and shared by several other retail stores.

Cafe Zucchero is one of the few places in Little Italy that actually feels Italian. Having been to many authentic Little Italy's around the country, I'm sad to say that San Diego's is not really among them -- it feels as though it is a Disney version that was slapped together a few years ago. But I digress.
Cafe Zucchero has the best espresso I've had in San Diego -- not that bitter stuff, ahem, that other places seem to serve. And it's reasonably priced too -- my iced Americano set me back only $1.50 (perhaps even less). Italian sodas were about the same price, which is an incredibly reasonable price. And they even add cream in, unlike other places that seem to think Italian soda is the same thing as soda water with some syrup.
The gelato selection is quite good, and while it isn't as creamy as the stuff you get in Italy, it's a pretty good likeness. The pistachio flavor is the best.
My favorite thing at Cafe Zucchero is the pastries though. Those are genuinely Italian, and they are really fresh and delicious. There is one that is a lemon and cream concoction (wish I remember what it was called!) that is so light and delicate -- perfect if you are craving something sweet but not cloyingly so.
Nice atmosphere and patio -- overall highly recommended.

The scallops were so tasty at Champagne! This restaurant is just ideal for first dates, too. Not too pretentious and just plain scrumptious.

Con Pane makes fabulous breads. I like the gruyere and chive the best. It's so good you can just eat it plain. I also like the red onion foccacia bread. Get there early though, as they sell fast. They do not take credit cards, so be sure to bring your cash or checkbook. Also, the don't open until 8 on weekdays, which I find a little suprising. Bring the pooch and grab a table out front. Parking is easy on the weekends, since it shares spaces with the bank.

Cakes are handmade in the "Old World Style" and the amount of fillings and flavors is endless. The staff here pay real attention to detail on the creation of their cakes. It is a perfect place to get your wedding cake (they offer a free single layer cake on your anniversary) and birthday cakes. A great alternative to the grocery store sheet cake.

Ok, dessert fans, if you go to San Diego, be sure to try this place, and be ready to wait in line. I had the breading pudding with ice cream off their special menu, that was DA DOMB!!! I dont' remember what my friends ordered, but they are pretty good too. Who need to go to bars or clubs, this is the place to go after dinner!
I heard they used to have a location in SF, but it was closed down. Not sure what happened.

This donut ship is so conveniently located right next door to the Starbucks. There is never a line at the donut shop, but they have wonderful donuts, better than Krispy Kreme. The donuts are all fresh made and they have a good selection. The prices are very low for a dozen. Next time you stop by Starbucks, swing over and grab a donut on your way out, it's definitely worth it!
