Thank you! We were four adults and three small kids in town from Santa Barbara and Houston to do the Sea World, Legoland, etc tour. We all eat Japanese food frequently and Zensei was a real find: excellent food, broad menu, incredibly friendly and thoughtful service, reasonable prices, and mellow ambiance. If we lived in San Diego, Zensei would be our regular weekly Japanese fix.
Pros: Varied menu and delicious food, very friendly service
Cons: TV on all the time

My husband tried this place with my son (7) for lunch. By the end of the week we were in there all together for dinner so that I could try it for myself. I immediately knew what he meant when he said is was not just good... but GOOD. If you want to just have sushi you can sit at the bar where you can watch them make it fresh for you. We sat at a booth so we could experience the other dishes they have as well. I had the Bulgogi and it was very good. I would definitely recommend this to anyone willing to try authentic Japanese cuisine at a reasonable price.

One of the best sushi restaurants in S.D.! Low-key, casual, everyday sushi place. I've been a regular there for a few years now. Staff is friendly and know me by name. Great service every time. Love the Spicy Crunchy roll and Sesame Chicken! Worth checking out :-)

I think this is one of the best places in San Diego for good but simple Chinese food at good prices. There are plenty of good places in Clairemont too but this place is nice and close to me. The lunch specials are awesome.

The food at Yenchim is not only your americanized chinese food. In addition to the standards there are traditional chinese dishes there as well. Although you need to be able to read chinese to see what these dishes are on the separate chinese written menu, it speaks for the chef there that he is able to cook chinese food (americanized or not) and it shows in the good food served. The service is also good and attentive. They are busy enough that you're not worried about why the restaurant is not busy, yet they are glad to have you as a customer and attentive to any needs you may have. To their advantage it the best real chinese food place within a 5-10 mile radius from them (real meaning not fast food like pick up stix or panda etc). Great prices and meal for lunch specials too which come with sides.

The sushi here wasn't very satisfying. They were small and thin and didn't taste very authentic. Some were good thohg, such as the tempura sushi. I didn't like the environment because it felt cramped. The price is medium.
