This store rocks. It's like walking into an old time mom and pop store where the owners and family run the store. They really care about your needs whether it's comics, gaming, or CCG tournaments. The owner, Jim, really knows his stuff, in fact, there isn't alot you can't ask this former Bio-Physicist turned Comic and gaming guru. Saturdays are where its at and the store can become really crowded and has a real energetic buzz in the air from the kids to the adults playing in the tourneys. Wednesdays, new comic days are fantastic, with Jim, Marina, Kelly, Nick and Bryan working hard to make sure all the pulls are ready for the regular customers and that all questions are answered for the new customers. The best thing about this store is they aren't after your money, they want your business, and definitely want you to come back. They will give you an honest answer and you don't come by that kind of honesty in this day and age. This store has recently expanded to accomodate the crowded Weekend sessions and I am sure that the Comic crowd will welcome this space too. If you really want to check out the flavor of an old time San Diego Comic Store since 1974, you should check out the conveniently located Artifex Entertainment off the 15 freeway. They really are friendly, and will tell you where to get what you are looking for if they do not have it. How's that for service? !!!!

This store is jam packed with a ton of really cool stuff. You never know what you might find in here. I have purchased a few trinkets from the store, but I love to just wander around and check everything out. There is never anyone pushing to sell you things, just polite and friendly sales people. I definitely recommend stopping in to see what treasures you can find!

I love antique stores and find that each has a different specialty. House of Heirlooms has collected a huge selection of carnival glass. The pieces are quality and most are without any chips at all. The price on the carnival glass is competitive and rivals most online antique stores, and certainly any other antique store in San Diego. The variety of color is great too. I collect green carnival glass and found several pieces here. In addition, House of Heirlooms has a cool selection of photographs, most of them showcasing San Diego decades ago. These are incredibly cheap, and would work great for a scrapbooker or artist.

This furniture store is for all the city homers looking for sophisticated but still classy furniture & interior decoration items. I like the items on sale here which have good wooden finish & polished look. The prices are also reasonable & can get some discount on combo purchases like dining tables & chairs set.

I INHERITED A TABLE SET FROM MY GRANDPARENTS. MY GRANDMOTHER WHO IN 1960'S BOUGH THE SET WHILE LIVING IN FRANCE. LATER, THE MILITARY RELOCATED MY GRANDPARENTS TO SAN DIEGO AND THEY BROUGHT THEIRS SET WITH THEM. I GOT THE TABLE/CHAIRS AND CHINA BUT SISTER "DEBBIE" GOT THE 1960'S BUFFET. I WAS ABLE TO FIND THE SAME EXACT ONE HERE AND BY THE SAME COMPANY. IT MATCHES TERRIFIC AND I EVEN GOT THE SCRATCH OUT OF THE TOP WITH WAX STICK. I LOVE THE COMPLETE SET NOW. THANKS MARVIN WINTERS

House of Antiques has a large part of their space devoted to costume jewelry and hair accessories. Pins have come back into fashion in a big way, and I've found several vintage pins here for less than $5/apiece. If you're a collector of hat pins, they also have several for sale, all in great condition with no cracks or breaks in the pins. I haven't shopped for anything else here, as the dishes and other knick knacks don't move, and the stock is a bit stagnant and unchanging. However, their jewelry selection is constantly changing, and I try to stop in a few times a month to see what's new.

City Lights is one of those unique stores that you can't help but browse around inside. They carry tons of porcelain collectibles -- if you are into Department 56, Dickens Village, Annalee and such this is the place to get authorized accessories and pieces. The only drawback is they don't carry any of the Lemax line (Spookytown - Halloween, or the Christmas Village pieces).

Mid-Century Design is located on Park Blvd right next door to the coffee shop and cafe... which makes it a good place to window shop if you are killing time waiting for friends to show up.
The store is pretty small in terms of square feet, but they definitely pack (or should I say "stack"?) a lot in there. All the kitschy, hip mid-century stuff that either looks as if it belongs in an architectural catalog (here's looking at you, Eames) or an Austin Powers set is the sort of style you'll find here. Turnover seems to be pretty quick, so you can check in here every few weeks to see if they have anything that meets your needs. If you don't see what you're looking for, the owner will take down your name and number and give you a shout if he finds a piece and brings it into the store.
Prices here, while not amazingly cheap by any means, are pretty reasonable. Mid-century seems to be all the rage now, so the price tags seem to have likewise shot up. Every time I've been in here (that's many!), the staff have been nice and friendly. I ended up buying two chrome lamps that I have been very pleased with, and continue to check back to see if they have the elusive table of my dreams.

More
The Cracker Factory Antiques Shopping Center is one of those antique spots that allows many vendors to rent a space and set up a booth. So a lot of it is hit and miss. I will say though that there is more life in the ones on the main floor than the ones upstairs, but I am sure that goes without saying.
My favorite booth is the Japanese antiques. You can see old tea cabinets, ceremony trays, screen dividers, chairs, even ancient samarai warrior outfits (sorry, don't know the proper name!). There are a lot of unusual pieces there, and if textiles are your thing, they have a good selection of kimonos and obis.
Upstairs is a booth by an Arts and Crafts style woodcrafts person. The pieces are beautifully constructed and amazing to look at. Wish I could afford them!
Good overall representation of items here -- everything from old dentist's cabinets to fiestaware. The building itself is fun to look at and walk around, since it's old and creaky.
Nearby is the Gaslamp district, so you can walk around the neighborhood and make an afternoon of it.
