i haven't been to many zoos in the past but my guess is that they will not be able match that of San Diego Zoo. They have a lot of animals here. If you had to walk the entire zoo, you'd be in for a lot of walking since the zoo is so large. luckily, the fare we paid ($35 for an adult) included the bus tour guide, express buses (there are two express buses) and sky tram. We used all transportation options to traverse through the zoo. We saw the giraffes - including a baby giraffe that was born just last week, elephants, rhinos, hippos, monkeys, gorillas, jaguars, lions and tigers. All the animals you would expect to see at a zoo. They also had Meerkats on display which were super cute - much cuter in person than watching on TV( meerkat manor). and of course, they had panda bears. The pandas were very active when we went. We witnessed one climb a tree with absolutely no difficulty and then navigate through the branches - i feared that it would fall but no, it seemed most natural. the other was eating bamboo which was very cute to watch.
There is quite a bit to see here at the zoo and it appears that this zoo is very eco-friendly - their benches are made with recycled plant materials and they aim to grow as much as the food in the park for the animals as possible (as an example, they grow most or all of the bamboo used to feed the pandas).

$35 per adult, allows you access to the whole park, express buses and the sky tram. Great arrays of animals in this zoo, and all easily accessed via walking or combination of bus/walk. Stick around for the sea lion show too. Pandas are their famous exhibition. Late 2009, they are opening up a new area, interactive section for elephants and other wild animals. Must see: Panda, Giraffs, Mircats

I finally got a chance to go to the San Diego Zoo. It was great! They had hundreds of animals from all areas of the world. My friend was kind of sad that there weren't any penguins. But I guess that's what Sea World is for. The park was huge though, and being out of shape, I got really tired by the end of the trip. The prices are fair and I am really glad that the park is non-profit. All proceeds go to protecting endangered species. Food is pricey, so bring your own snacks.

I took my mother and aunt who were visiting me to the San Diego Zoo for a fun day. We got the tickets that included the tickets for the shuttles and tram, and it was completely worthwhile to do so. Taking the 40 minute tour bus is a great start to the zoo, because it helps you get your bearings and see what is available. I strongly suggest looking online before you go to see if there might be shows you want to see and to make sure that certain exhibits that are important to you are going to be available. Also certain animals have viewings only at certain times. We ended up skipping the pandas, because the line was tremendously long and we weren't willing to wait. Going when the zoo opens is a good idea, because most of the animals seemed to be napping in the middle of the day. Definitely bring your own snacks and drinks, because the zoo charges a fortune and the food is less than mediocre!

I've been to the San Diego Zoo and it is, by far, the most awesome zoo that I have
ever been to in my life!!! I felt like I was in the middle of Paradise with all the
beautiful plants and flowers. It's like getting a multitude of enjoyment for one
pass. I absolutely would go back again whenever I am in the area. You don't
see animals (wild animals) in our zoo like you do theirs. I loved it so much that
I bought their book so I could bring it home and brag to my friends!!!!

The San Diego Zoo is HUGE and I'm glad I visited it when I was in San Diego for a week. The employees are extremely friendly and even offered to guide us to where the giraffes were as she was going to pass it to where she was going anyway. You could spend an entire day here without ever seeing the same thing twice if you actually stop and observe the animals. We spent 30 minutes alone looking at one monkey exhibit. The most amusing part of my trip to this zoo was the rhino when he decided he needed to excuse himself because it shot out extremely fast onto the wall and splattered. This place has so many trees you would think you are actually in the jungle. Just watch out for the tour guide bus because I was walking backwards to get a good distance so I could take a picture of the elephants and almost got hit by the bus.

San Diego Zoo is definately a world class zoo. It has the best variety of animals in the United States and is very well maintained. The zoo grounds are very large, and requires lots of walking so it may be difficult with a young child, but I suppose you need all that space to house all the exotic animals. Even the plants and flowers were well-maintained and enjoyable to look at. The children's garden is a nice place to rest and pretty to look at. The price for the ticket is pretty hefty, but worth it if you are in the are.
