The USS Midway museum offers civilians a unique look at how sailors live. The cost of admission is a bit high, but the price includes a set of headphones that gives you information along the tour. You can see lots of different spaces, including the berthing area and the bridge. Very informative and a lot of fun. Not recommended for small children, handicapped persons or elderly people that may have difficutly navigating steep ladders and small passageways. Definitely a great place to stop and soak in some important naval history in San Diego.

First of all, this museum is very interesting and full of naval education. Not a good place to take kids under 4 because they'll get bored. You get headsets for information on the different areas of the ship. With younger kids, you can not utilize these! A lot of tight spaces and climbing. When you first get there you have to climb a bunch of stairs. No strollers and i dont think there is handicap access. There is a cafe and a souvinier shop. The price for the museum is a little high but how often do you get to go on a naval ship! Disappointed in the military discounts, considering it is a military ship!

I'll admit, I'm not one for the military -related museums or sites, but my boyfriend really wanted to see this old navy aircraft carrier when we walked past it. I agreed since I am usually dragging him to art museums and such.
I have been on other aircraft carriers before, but usually they only allow you to tour the main deck. The USS Midway allows you to tour the sleeping quarters, miniature bathrooms, mess hall, infirmirary and even their old post office. I was pleasantly surprised by how interesting it was to see this small microcosm of life at sea. It was particularly fascinated by the enormous industrial-sized pots in the kitchen (along with the typical recipe for chili) and reading about what a typical day was like. Seeing all the areas (and the small space for plane landings!) really allows you to imagine what life would be like on the ship.
Included with admission is a headset that gives you a tour around several levels of the ship. The most popular site was on the top level where you could tour the captain's area.
Recommended as a place to take the family or people visiting the area.
