i haven't been to many zoos in the past but my guess is that they will not be able match that of San Diego Zoo. They have a lot of animals here. If you had to walk the entire zoo, you'd be in for a lot of walking since the zoo is so large. luckily, the fare we paid ($35 for an adult) included the bus tour guide, express buses (there are two express buses) and sky tram. We used all transportation options to traverse through the zoo. We saw the giraffes - including a baby giraffe that was born just last week, elephants, rhinos, hippos, monkeys, gorillas, jaguars, lions and tigers. All the animals you would expect to see at a zoo. They also had Meerkats on display which were super cute - much cuter in person than watching on TV( meerkat manor). and of course, they had panda bears. The pandas were very active when we went. We witnessed one climb a tree with absolutely no difficulty and then navigate through the branches - i feared that it would fall but no, it seemed most natural. the other was eating bamboo which was very cute to watch.
There is quite a bit to see here at the zoo and it appears that this zoo is very eco-friendly - their benches are made with recycled plant materials and they aim to grow as much as the food in the park for the animals as possible (as an example, they grow most or all of the bamboo used to feed the pandas).

If you're interested in seeing animals in more natural environments then you will probably enjoy the Wild Animal Park. While it would be impossible to maintain a completely wild setup with predators and such, this is as close as you could come in San Diego. Younger kids wont enjoy this as much as the zoo because your exposure to the animals is at much greater distances. They do have a petting zoo and other up close experiences including a bird flight show that is very impressive.

A great place to enjoy and have fun. Shamu is amazing with her tricks and its fun to see the dolphins, seals and otters at work. The penguin exhibit is amazing and I loved the red flamingos. The trolley and the sky tower lets you see an amazing view of the San Diego harbor and journey to Atlantis is an experience one never forgets. There are many great places to eat inside and the whole place is very neat and well maintained. Great fun for kids and adults alike

All you roller coaster aficionados already know this. While the ride is not long it is worth it. If you have never ridden a wood coaster you have to give it a shot, it's not just the ups and downs. It's the entire experience, the wood shaking, the noise...and the fear of it falling all apart. Well this coaster is very safe for all. There are amazing views from the top of the coaster; you can see all of mission and pacific beach. Fun time for all!

This mall is HUGE and it has almost everything you can think of. Horton Plaza covers 6-1/2 city blocks and is up to 5 stories high. There is about 130 shops and restaurants including a Long's Drugs where everyone gets their parking validations/gum =). Shop till you drop!
And at night, there are nice places to go clubbing in Gaslamp around that area

This is one of the last arcades you'll find in San Diego, and it's a pretty good one. About $2 for admission and then most games are 2-4 nickles, and they have some old classics for free. It's a good place to spend a weekend afternoon if you have some extra time and want to get some gaming in. They don't get the newest games really quickly, but that's understandable since they are a nickel arcade. Overall I give Nickel City a high recommendation.

This spooky haunted house is nestled in the historic part of Old Town. Old Town is fun enough to visit on it's own but adding the Whaley house just makes it better.
The Whaley house can be quite hokey but at any given time during the week you'll find classes of school kids taking the tour. It's an old tradition that even I remember doing.
The place is quite haunted and if you get too scared you can walk down the path and grab a bite to it.
