I proposed to my wife in the downstairs booth, right by the bar 30 years ago, when this was still the Press Room. We now come by at least once a year when the Ice Rink is open at Horton Plaza and pig out on cheese, chardonney and the mussle bisque....we love the bar area as well and enjoy listening to the lawyer wanna-be's passing out business cards amonst each other, it's a gas! You are greeted by the owner and made to feel like family...and the food is worth the wait (but you usually don't have to wait long at all). Thanks for being part of a San Diego tradition! Anytime we are down by Horton Plaza it is a great place just for a drink or two (or more! HAHAHA).

Dobson's reminds me of an upscale English pub/bistro. It is very warm and friendly, but not at all stuffy. The staff are relaxed and friendly. Order the steaks here and you won't be disappointed.

My family and I stayed in the gaslamp district recently and were dissappointed with the many tourist trap restaurant settings... then we found Dobsons. Mr. Dobson greeted us with a wonderful smile and warmth I've not seen in a host/owner in a very long time. He is genuine and gracious. His bartendar was outstanding- we enjoyed him so much we decided to stay at the bar and eat our dinner. The scallops were some of the best I've ever had. Overall great food and truly a wonderful environment. Thank you Mr. Dobson!

If you are lucky enough to find this place, it is probably because you noticed a steady stream of lunchgoers entering a small door in the side of an office building across from McDonalds. This small, quaint pub style restaurant has been serving the business elite for years. Many business deals have been done over lunch in Dobsons. The food is excellent and the staff is friendly.

I have never had a better bartender in San Diego. The service was exceptional, so friendly and comfortable but also polite. This place seems to have a ton of regulars which is always a good sign. I've only had sandwiches and oysters, but both were very good. The wine list is also quite nice and the servers are always willing to make recommendations. The bar, while small, has such a pleasant atmosphere, lots of conversation between the patrons and the guys behind the bar make this old school place the kind of dying breed I'm sad to see disappearing. Lunch or Happy Hour at Dobson's can not possibly disappoint.
Pros: Great Bar, GREAT service
Cons: Small
