Its in downtown Salem, a must see for any visitor. I live in salem, and recently re-visited it. Hadnt been there in 30 years! Shame on me! I was delighted with the additions they put on. Wonderful new building with glass walls and ceilings. They offer a nice little area to grap a bite to eat. I was impressed that each area of the museum had an attendant, not only to watch that no visitors touch any thing, but they also are there to answer any questions you might have. Lots to see. And none of it is boring either. Extremely well kept. Very pleasant place to visit........rain or shine!

I always liked this museum, but since the renovations it is just great. It's a really beautiful space. The addition of the China House (even with the hassle of the extra fee and the requirement of a timed ticket) is just great -- a whole Chinese house rebuilt inside the museum walls. Given the Asian collection in particular, it's just wonderful. The permanent collection is so nicely displayed and curated, and everything is so shiny and new. A terrific addition has been the computers in the big trading room where you can just put the mouse over the picture of an item contained in the room and then you'll pull up a full item description. The museum shop is great.

This is a nice local miniature golf course. Its set on a small hill off Swampscott Rd. Lots of water features and all the usual mini golf fun things at each hole. They sell Richardson's ice cream on the premises for a snack after your game. Very clean, well kept. Great for the kids

It's easy to see how someone would think this was a tourist trap. There isn't much to it (you just sit in a big room with dioramas and a recorded voice and lights), but it does give you an overview of the witch trials. Maybe you have to have seen it first as a kid, but it's kitschy fun for sure. Most interesting (and amusing in a macabre way) is the man who was pressed to death ("More weight," he cried). It's just a part of the whole Salem experience to visit this place.

I checked out this discount dancewear store. It was not really discounted, similarly priced if not higher than others around. But they had a good selection, which was very different than others I had seen before.

If you are looking for a great place to shop for great outdoors supplies, this is the place to go. I have gone there for years now and they always have everything that you are looking. And if that isn't enough the prices can't be beat here either. The customer service here is always great, they are so nice and helpful.

Most art galleries in Salem are essentially gift shops for the flow of tourist. This gallery has a large selection of gift items, but also presents high quality art by good artists - at prices below what a Boston dealer would charge. A gallery is only as good as its owner's taste and the owner of this gallery, Amy DesChenes, has a very good eye. The gift items also reflect her sensibilities.
For the record, my only involvement with the gallery is that I've bought a painting by Lou O'Keefe from them.
Salem also has a few old line galleries that specialize in marine pictures.
The work at Galerie Luna ranges from glass to textiles to paintings. It is definitely worth visiting.

Mortts has a great selection of shoes for both kids and adults. I go there specifically for dance shoes, as they are about $5-10 cheaper than any other place I have been. There is always someone to help, often the owner.
