yes, its in the middle of nowhere, but its so worth the trip! I go anytime I drive down route 11 from Hartford to the CT/RI shoreline. I have lived everywhere from Boston to Baltimore and this is, by far the best ice cream I have ever tasted.
Pros: best tasting, authetic
Cons: middle of nowhere

I have been taking my animals to this place since I was about 14 years old. They are very nice with reasonable rates. They truly seem to care about your animal. They take cats and dogs to the best of my knowledge. Animals can have baths before they leave and of course you can take your special toys in for them as well.

Siimply Flowers in Salem does beautiful floral arrangements. The flowers are the freshest, and the arrangements last a long time. There's also a nice selection of home decor and gift items. I like the homey atmosphere. Walk in and you're likely to find the owner cozied up on the loveseat working on a wreath or some other decorative creation. This small, personal shop is a breath of fresh air.

First of all, Salem Valley Farms ice cream is not at 89 Rattlesnake Ledge Rd. It's at 20 Darling Rd. in Salem, CT. This is the creamiest, freshest, wonderful-est ice cream you'll ever try. We've tried some other great ice creams in CT, and some come very close, but we still think Salem Valley Farms is the best.

We're crazy about Salem Valley Farms ice cream. We've tried several excellent ice cream places in CT, and we still think this one is the best. It's dangerously close to our house, and we have to have their ice cream at least once a month during the season. The ice cream is always fresh and very creamy, and there are at least a couple of dozen flavors to choose from. Count yourself lucky if there's not a long line when you visit. They're usually open from about April till after Columbus Day, but that can vary.

We've been very pleased to find Salem Valley Veterinary Clinic in our neighborhood. They have a beautiful new, state-of-the-art clinic, and the doctors and staff are excellent and very caring. Our dogs have gotten wonderful care there, and the docs and staff have seen us through a couple of serious illnesses with skill and sensitivity. If you're looking for good vets for your furry friends, I can recommend the Salem Valley vets.

Salem Country Gardens is an excellent source for lawn and garden needs. Their plants are high-quality and they have great customer service. We have enjoyed their large selection of unique Christmas decorations each holiday season, and it's become a tradition for us to buy one or two new ornaments for our tree there. They offer free gardening seminars periodically, too. I've also bought nature sounds cassettes/CDs there.

It's such a lovely place just to walk around, and their plants are high quality and pesticide-free. There's a garden you can walk through, plus a greenhouse and a gift shop in an old barn. You might also like to say hello to the chickens and other barnyard "critters" while you're there.
