I went to the 128 for a birthday celebration about a month ago. The food and atmosphere was fantastic. The interior is cozy, quaint, and comfortable. The rissotto was delicious, as was the goat cheese and chutney platter with baked garlic clove--never had anything like that, excellent pairings and wonderful flavor. The hostess and server were younger, presumably college goers at UST--they could have been a bit more on top of things as we were left for extended periods of time. but the apps, wine, and their ribs more than made up for it.
Pros: The food and their wonderful flavor combinations--truly a place for those who have a more refined palate.
Cons: Pricey, difficult to park with all the permit-only restrictions.

3 Seasons is a great family restaurant. It's a fifties-style diner complete with drive-in carside service(operating in the summer). Their homemade rootbeer is a must-try and their burgers, malts, fries, and broasted chicken make this place an American classic. It's located in Mahtomedi on the site of the old amusement park that was there in the earlier part of the 20th century. Black and white photos of that place and time decorate the walls. Great spot.

I discovered A Fine Grind not long ago when my friends and I were wandering the Marshall area. They make the best latte I've had in the Cities, and their Frappes are divine. I recommend the "Dirty Uncle Chester", a mocha frappé with toffee syrup. They also offer food, such as really awesome muffins, cookies, and paninis.
Best of all, even with its very reasonable pricing ($3 for a latte) this coffee shop has frequent promotions, such as $3 Frappé Fridays. Beware, however; you'll be charged an extra $.25 if you pay with a credit card.

We used this bakery for a 3 day event. Their cakes and bars are very good. They were able to provide us with enough of a variety so that we could do dessert tables for 3 different meals without ever repeating a dessert. They even made some special cakes for us where we provided family recipes. I wouldn't recommend their cookies, they were a little dry. Their prices are good and they were very accommodating.

I LOVED A REBOURS! Best Pate hands down in the Twin Cities. I lived in MSP for 2+ years from NYC and instantly fell in love with this place. It's a real shame that Minnesotans don't patronize good places as often as needed to support these excellent venues. I strongly feel that you guys really don't know how to appreciate a great spot when its right in the middle of your city!
I'm still shocked to this day that Five Res + Street Lounge closed after one year. If we had Five in NYC, at those prices, holy smacks, I'd be there every weekend. The closest thing I've come to Five (in terms of quality, taste and originality of the food, as well as spectacular presentation and tasting menus) is a placed called CRU (look it up on citysearch) and it costs at least 5 times as much, easily. But it does WELL, not only because NY'ers go out more, because when we find a real gem, we really show our appreciation, in the form of $$. Sorry but restaurants aren't non-profit charities that cook out of good will, they need to make money to stay open. And if you want all these great qualities in a place, don't bicker when you have to shell out some hard earned cash! Trust me, you guys REALLY are paying peanuts for a place like Heartland.
Sadly a gorgeous place like A Rebours, with friendly, timely service, well presented, tasteful and creative food, with a pretty good wine list and GREAT prices, closes down because places like Chino Latino (which yes does have good food, but come on! noisy as heck and the bathroom being unisex *really* isn't as impressive as it's made out to be, and it sure doesn't improve it's service!) are sucking all your attention.
Oh goodness, if it gets any worse, next, Heartland will be closed! Or the Artists Quarter! Or 112 Eatery.... well, that's not likely....at least I hope not or I'll have to stop visiting.
Pros: food, service, wine, PATE and then a Steak sandwich at lunch, YUM!
Cons: empty in this lunch based economy and unappreciative "city"-dwellers

For those of us who grew up after the island of Cyprus was split, and living in New York or London, hummus, tablouleh and teramousala are like old fashion home cooking and this is our comfort food. Falafels, Dylan, and Bob Marley were staples of the college life. Now as we grow older and haul around kids in station wagons, this small Middle Eastern restaurant/market located in the homey residental Como Park neighbohood is the perfect stop for friends and family on the way to the Zoo or an afternoon in the park. Falafels are made with freshly ground chickpeas, stuffed in hand pulled baked peta, topped with homemade turip pickles, and dizzled with milky tahini. Chef Bishara Ailabouni's smile sits behind a smoky and intense baba gannouj and his hummus is light and airy. A half dozen pies can be obtained for a few dollars each and are great to bring home or to a potluck picnic. If you are a meat-eater, try the sfeha made with ground meats, feta and hot pepper while the spinish pies will satisfy the veggie lover amply.

Abu Nader is a little hidden restaurant/store right near the St. Paul U campus -- they have wonderful falfafel sandwiches, veggie options, hummus, etc. I've never been disappointed with the food there, and the food is served promptly! Great veggie options there. They also have great dessert. It's reasonably priced. They also have a middle eastern market there where you can purchase various products (from canned eggplant to henna, etc.).

We have been going to the Acropol for over 30 years for all of our special occasions. Best Greek food hands down. Better than any greek food I have had anywhere in the world. Family run, the staff has become almost part of our own family, they are so friendly.
