Who can come to St. Louis without visiting the Arch. It is our best known landmark. It is ten dollars for adults seven for youth and three dollars for kids. The tram ride is my sons favorite part but I definitely would not do it if you are closterphobic it is pretty small cars. The view from the top of the Arch is great you can look at downtown St. Louis or over to Illinois (but it's all farm land) you can watch the river traffic which is pretty cool too.

You can see the Arch from miles away and I was thrilled to get right up to and take some photos. I think thats the law when you are a tourist in another town :) I went on the tour of the Arch and up to the top we went in a small little elevator built for two called a tram. You can see the inner structure and the stairwell as you ascend to the top. Once at the top the view of St. Louis and the river is outstanding. They only let you stay up there for about 20 minutes, but it was enough time to scope things out and get a couple more photos.

I have been to the Arch many times in the twenty years I lived in St Louis. It is still neat to see the view from the top. My children also love the ride to the top in the special elevators, although anyone that has a problem with tight spaces may also have a problem. It can also be uncomfortable on a busy day when the elevators are full. The museum under the arch has a wide variety of exhibits relating to the old west, including much material on the various Plains Indians. Add tree shaded grounds overlooking the Mississippi and walking distance to The Landing and it makes for a great day.
