I purchased a Twosome of Golf for Wildhorse Golf Course from www.FreeGolfandMore.com and I also received a $10.00 voucher for Kru Restaurant. The service was fun since our waitress was hilarious and made appropriate recommendations for lunch. Everyone in the restaurant seemed to be enjoying themselves. We will return again for sure.

I ate here for a late lunch on a Monday afternoon. It is smallish, with only about 6 tables inside, and a few more on the sidewalk. The service was very prompt, not obtrusive. The decor was very simple, and clean. But the food.....oh the food!!! From the perfectly salted edamame to the sushi, it was not only great, it was perfect! For example, the roll that I ordered had avocado and shrimp on the outside. The shrimp and avocado were sliced so thinly that it was PERFECT. Separately ordered yellowtail and fresh sake were outstanding and fresh, even for a Monday (traditionally not a fish market day). I will definitely be going back next time I'm in town.
Pros: Best sushi in town
Cons: Small place

I went here for Valentine's Day this year and I thought the place had a nice atmosphere. The prices are comparable to other great sushi restaurants. I am pretty picky about my sushi and since it's my favorite food I don't think the sushi was the best or the freshest, but the place did have great service. It might be worth checking out if you've never been there, but that one time was enough for me.
Pros: nice atmosphere
Cons: the food was not the best i've ever had

My girlfriends asked me where I'd like to go for dinner for my bday. Well, I was craving sushi since I didn't have any while we had French guests who were here visiting. They aren't too adventurous. Anyway, I remember going to a sushi contest and I remembered that Kru was a top contender. So, I told my friends that we should check it out.
When we some of got there, a couple of my friends were already there enjoying some edamame and drinks. The server came immediately to take our drink orders. And, one of my friends asked if we could have more edamame since there was only a little left. The waitress informed us with a snotty attitude that each table only gets 1 bowl of edamame. Well, she acquiesced and brought another bowl. Ok. That was good. She took our orders and 4 of 5 of us ordered maki sushi each to share. One of my friends ordered the teriyaki chicken with vegetable tempura. The food was served promptly. The rolls were beautiful to look at but it really lacked flavor and they were relatively small for the price. That was disappointing. The teriyaki chicken came with only string bean tempura. After we were almost done, I noticed that my friend with teriyaki chicken didn't have rice. She informed me that it was ala carte. Who serves teriyaki without rice?! That is strange. So, I asked the waitress about it. She said that many patrons weren't eating the rice so they stopped serving it with their food. This is no Japanese restaurant. I'll stick with Mikuni's any day.
Also, when we paid the bill, the waitress came back to pick it up and asked if we needed change. Listen up servers: Never ask if your customers need change when you are picking up the check to take to the cash register. If we need the change, let us take it. We will leave whatever TIP is appropriate. Otherwise, you may not get a tip...........
Pros: Decor, clean restrooms, presentation
Cons: Bland sushi and teriyaki, cheap on rice

My GF can attest to the fact that we like to spend more time in the city than in Sacramento. But you know, I got to give my girl Allison some love and come out her way once and a while. Well, on this one Friday evening I was happy to endure the two hour Amtrak ride to the capital because I got to enjoy one of the best meals of my life ... on this planet.
We showed up at Kru on relatively busy Friday night without a reservation, but scored a great two-top right on the front window. This way we could check out the folks strolling down J street.
We opened with some delicious drinks and miso soup. Followed by the scallops and foie gras. Now, can you think of something more rich than scallops toped with foie gras? Hmmmm ... maybe lobster and foie gras or kobe beef and foie gras. I wonder if Chef would take my request the next time I visit?
The second course was the lobster tempura. Now, as you may have noticed from my other reviews, I have staples for each cuisine that I like to taste when trying a new place. For Japanese, this happens to be the freshness of the fish and tempura. I learn how to judge the later from my friend Aya. The tempura has to be light and crispy. If it oily and soggy ... no bueno. Kru knocked the tempura out of the park! Their tempura baaaaaracks! (Yes, that was a political plug).
Third course, we split entrees. She ordered some delicious rolls and I had the deluxe sashimi mix. They were equally spectacular.
I love this place!!!
Oh, and the service and environment were nice as well :-)
BONUS!! Allison forgot her wallet a home, so I picked up the dinner. Now, you're asking, how's that a good thing. Well, she picked up the next one ... at the Kitchen ;-)
Pros: creative, rich and fresh
Cons: none

I love Kru so much that where I able, I would fly there once a week just to have lunch. Their spicy tuna is fresh and flavorful and perfect. The catepillar roll is fantastic as well. For non-sushi lovers the box lunch features an excellent chicken terriyaki and tempura blend. Your lunch is served with a very, very tasty miso soup, a salad that has an excellent light dressing and perfectly steamed rice. I did not care for the tea at all, but their dessert more than made up for it....a cheesecake roll, cut to look like sushi, topped with pistacio ice cream, chocolate and raspberry sauce and a cookie garnish. Amazing!!!
For those who don't love a "fish" flavor, tell them to leave the shaved bonito off of your salad. If you go there once, you will never go to another sushi restaurant in Sac. Enjoy!!!
Pros: Amazing food...all the way around. Friendly sushi chefs..sit at the bar.
Cons: service can be a bit slow. small place, so large groups could be a problem.
