Elliot's Natural Foods

I am stunned at the poor treatment I received at Elliot's. My daughter and I were out doing shopping for the holidays and we went to Elliot's to pick up a few needed items. We looked around and then spent some time smelling the incense options. The lights were turned out in the main part of the store and an employee came by to ask if we needed help, as they were closing soon. We said we were almost done and she said, "no hurry". We remembered we needed an essential oil and they were right next to the incense, so we reached for those and a man walked over and said they were closing. I responded that we were nearly done and he said, "I know what you're doing!" I was taken aback and said we were looking for one more thing. He angrily accused us of dawdling. I paid for our items and then went to talk with him calmly to explain how long I've been shopping at Elliot's and how we go out of our way to support small, locally owned businesses. He talked over me and said he didn't recognize me, so he didn't believe me. I was just so stunned. I explained that we'd spoken to a woman about how much time we had and he again interrupted to say that she wasn't the owner, he was. He was yelling at this point about how I should be willing to pay the overtime for his cashier, how I was disrespecting his time, how he knew all about "people like me". So incredibly rude. Even after all of that, I got in my car and the clock read 6:02. Their sign says open until 6pm, so he was pushing us out the door at about 5:50. I used to shop there when his mother ran the store and she'd give my toddlers vitamin c....those kids are adults now. I've shopped there for nearly 30 years and recommended the store to countless people. I really feel sort of heartbroken! He was so horrid and rude and accusing. I spoke with kindness and generosity and let him know that I'd valued his business over others - even that was met with harshness and offense. I will never go there again. He clearly doesn't care about having my business. more

Elliot's Natural Foods stocks the usual assortment of organic foods, health foods, and the plethora of vitamins, minerals, and supplements common to most stores of this kind. There is a freezer section and a small produce section. Where they go wrong, however, is in the bread section. This is almost an afterthought here, with a few loaves, bagels, and the like stuffed into a tiny end cap. As a person who was allergic to wheat during grade school, my parents used to have to buy soy-based bread at a natural food store. I was unimpressed that they carried nothing like that here. There is also very little in the way a rolls, whole wheat, and other bread products. more
