I've been to other zoos and Sacramento has a small one in comparaisment. They admission is not expensive and you can pretty much go around the zoo in 1-2 hours.
They have most of the regular animals but some are missing like the Elephant, Polar Bear and Hippo. Some cages seem too small for certain animals but they look like they are taken care off.
My daugher likes to watch the chimps play and the tiger roam.
They have a small food shop at the zoo but the prices are high and the food is like a fast food place.
They also have a reptile building and a stage where they have shows. There's also a small playground for the children.
It's a good place to bring children since they do not care how big a zoo is. Try not to get there around lunch time since you won't see most animals.

The Sacramento zoo is home to more than 400 animals which include snow leopards, a red panda, and much more. In addition to these animals the zoo offers 2 lakes, a butterfly/ hummingbird garden and even a garden dedicated to animal sculptures! The zoo also offers picnic areas, concession stands, gift stores among other things. This is a great place to take children and just have a fun day. Admission for adults is $7 and children about $5. What a great place to visit don’t miss out now!

We don't live far from the zoo. We have a family membership which is a great deal. My husband takes my daughter almost every Sunday to the zoo.
They have a Discovery Center that teaches the kids all about animals: the different types and how to tell them apart and whatever.
The gift shop is another fav. Especially during the summer because it's air condition, so it's nice to take a cooling break.
The zoo has a calender of events and we go to some, and it's worth checking out. Especially, the Halloween Party.
For older kids there are sleep overs, camping style.

The Sacramento Zoo is a nice zoo. It is small and there is not a great variety of animals, but it is fine, especially for small children. The chimpanzees and the hippo have always been favorites for my children. And of course, the ice cream cones are very well priced (junior cone for $1.00). Not the greatest or most exceptional zoo I have been too, but the it is fun just the same.

Great for families, groups, and dates. There are two free admission days a year, so take advantage. And be on the lookout for coupons! This is a wonderful zoo, there's lots of animals, and it's a great place to take children because there's a lot to see and do! There's also a guided tour for a nominal fee. You can purchase a zookey, and it will give you a "tour" all around the park.

Although the Sacramento Zoo is small in comparison to other zoos like the San Diego Zoo, the Sacramento Zoo still manages to house a large variety of animals, ranging from various birds and snakes to giraffes. The information posted next to each animal or habitat allows children to learn about the number of creatures in the zoo. The Sacramento Zoo makes a good family outing, especially since the zoo occasionally hosts fun family events.

I think this zoo is just ok. If your a bird lover this maybe the perfect place for you. They have many birds of all shapes and sizes. They have other animals too such as giraffe, monkeys and elephants. The zoo is small. There is plenty of parking. Across the street from it is Fairytale Town. They have a snack bar and some retail stores. Ever so often they will have a special event. For example I think they are going to or did already have camp out at the zoo day. That is when families can camp out at the zoo during the night. It suppose to be a different kind of experience.

When entering the zoo you hear the sounds of the animals, the monkeys obviously making the most noise. They have more than 400 animals at this zoo! There is always something to see, and taking your kids there would give them a treat. The food at the zoo is subpar, but you can't expect it to be great. The price is good for it also. Back on topic, the animals are amazing, you can watch the monkeys swinging around for day! And the Giraffess really give you a smile. Same with the snakes, but its a terrified smile.

Some people may think it is expensive but if you don’t buy anything from the gift shop and look for deals, it isn’t so bad.

The Sacramento Zoo rivals the best zoos in larger cities across the world. It has undergone numerous expansions over the years and features almost every kind of animal life you can think of. Children or all ages will be enthralled with the closeness of the animals - many are behind glass which allows the animals to come right up to you. There is a reptile habitat, an aviary, an exhibit of cats of all sizes, as well as habitats featuring many endangered and exotic animals. There are many educational facts posted around the zoo, and families can spend a whole day here easily. The prices are fair, and annual passes allow you access to special events such as the Ice Cream Safari.
