My family has been shopping at Hermann's Bakery for over 50 yrs. All Homemade, natural ingredients not loaded with preservatives. I have lived all over the US and still consider Hermann's one of the best bakeries in the US. They have the world's best donuts, pastries, cookies and cakes. Our favorite items are the raspberry coffee cakes and donuts for the raspberry lovers in our family and the maple walnut cookies and maple iced coffee cakes and donuts for those of us who are the maple lovers. Many kinds of homemade breads and rolls. Their cakes are exceptionally good especially some of the more unusual, uncommon ones. Different cakes are baked each day so if you want a specific cake: order in advance. Also ask for the list of cakes available(to order in advance) to challenge your taste buds!
You can order in advance or go in EARLY to make your own choices. On Saturday the best disappears by 10 am so get in early! Hermann's also closes in late July or early August each year to give their employees and family a long deserved 2 week vacation---sadly that's usually when I am home!
Hermann's is the bakery of your childhood and mine (my cousin's lived near the Herman kids and went to school with them). Sadly, many of these small, family owned bakeries are closing across the US and Canada due to the high prices of ingredients and small profit margin. The kids don't want to carry on their parents family owned business. Hermann's and Hagelstein's are part of the original OLD ROYAL OAK which also transitions well to the NEW, MODERN ROYAL OAK!
