I shopped at this store for over 6 years and always left with a cart load of wonderful finds. The last few times I've gone, I've left empty handed. Recently, I've stopped going all together.
I watched the price of paperback books rise from .99 to 3.99. I saw the price of toys go from decent thrift store prices to, in some cases, 19.99. I'm not talking about collector items or fantastic finds like an American girl doll or similar. I'm talking about your basic Disney princess electronic toy. 19.99! That's crazy. I spoke to the manager about it and she seemed completely unconcerned.
The quantity and quality of the merchandise in general has gone down hill drastically. The adult and children's clothing sections are meager compared to Goodwill.
I agree with the other reviewers about the employees seeming miserable and withdrawn and about the deplorable state of the restrooms. I had to take my potty-training toddler to the lady's room (I use that term loosely.) and I was appalled at it's filthy, run-down condition. I can't believe that a store would find that acceptable for customer use, and I'm saddened that the employees are forced to work in those conditions. There's just no excuse for it.
The shopping carts and dressing rooms are awful, but I was willing to put up with them while I was finding great things at reasonable prices.
Now this store is just not worth the hassle and the depressing shopping conditions.
Pros: None
Cons: Overpriced, dreary

Shopping at thrift stores can be fun and save you a lot of money. Many thrift stores are clean and efficiently run and make for a pleasant shopping experience. Bargain City is not one of those places.
Whatever you do, don't ask to use the restroom. When I had to, it was cluttered and nasty, had no toilet paper or paper towels, and was strewn with women's sanitary products (unused, thank goodness.)
Much of the merchandise is junk and over-priced. The prices are marked with a colored sticker and a black grease pencil, which is very difficult or impossible to remove completely.
There are 3 tiny unisex dressing rooms with no mirrors. Say what? There is a mirror around the corner by the boots, and people have to come out (take your purse with you and hope the next person waiting in line doesn't take your dressing room), and jostle in front of other people trying on clothes and around shoppers looking at the boots or simply trying to get by the bottle-neck.
If the owner, who profits from the donations of kind people wanting to help a charity, (how much does the charity get, by the way?) is too cheap to buy some inexpensive mirrors for the dressing rooms, then he could use donated ones, for goodness sake. There are not enough shopping carts, and the ones they do have are ancient and may not roll or may be missing a handle. Shoppers wait by the cash registers to grab a shopping cart when people check out.
The employees look unhappy and act like it's a chore to help you--good luck finding someone to show you the items in the cases. Of course, the manager sits in back on an elevated platform and oversees and yells at the employees. Honestly, it feels like a sweat shop in a 3rd world country and reminds me of a prison set-up. Very depressing place.
On the day they reduce the prices, it is packed with very long check-out lines, and there are several people who are always hovering at the back waiting to grab whatever good merchandise is being brought out before it's put on the sales floor.
I know this is a thrift store, but the owner needs to have more respect for the customers who are providing him with a nice income. At the very least he needs to step up to the plate and clean up the restroom, add dressing rooms with mirrors, get some decent shopping carts, and treat his employees better.
Pros: In Roswell
Cons: Many

Talk about a come up! I have a closet full of Kenneth Cole, Jhane Barnes, and Mondo di Marco. Did I mention I have been able to compile a business wardrobe that consist of all wool pants and blazers; many of which i purchased from Bargain City fresh from the dry cleaner. ALL SILK shirts, 100% Linen pants and shirts, All silk mock turtle neck sweaters, COOGI style sweaters. NEED I SAY MORE. If i were to put a retail price my drobe from Bargain City, I would easily say $5K. Go on Sunday and match the color ticket for an additional 75% off. The average tag is $3.99 and $4.99. The 75% off puts you at $1.06 and $1.25 respectively. Since you can't buy 22oz beer on Sunday this is a no brainer!! The key is consistently going. I have about 4 years under the belt. Get your MBA in clothing Economics at Bargain City. I certainly did.
Pros: price
Cons: how could their be any, it's a thrift store.

I worked at this place part time about 8 years ago, and I see it has not changed much. The manager is intellectually-challenged and dislikes anyone with an 'education.' The lady could not conduct a decent conversation beyond a fifth grade level.
I worked there to earn a little extra money, and was already employed full time in a corporate job. I also love thrift stores and thought the job would be fun. Management used to try to micro-manage me, but I would not allow them to do so. I would quickly let them know that this job did not pay my bills and that my full time job sufficed for that. The only reason I quit was because I got tired of working there after two months.
So John is still the owner? He owned two luxury cars back then. Cannot remember the make & model, and employees informed me that he owned an expensive home on Lake Lanier. John used to come into the store often and help himself to wads of money from the safe. I knew exactly where the safe was, and was witness to this. His 'then' girlfriend used to help herself to cash as well.
I doubt seriously if any portion of the sales for this place goes toward assistance for Vietnam Veterans. I know that the majority of it goes into the owners' pockets, because I've seen the evidence.
I will never donate anything to this place. The owners and mangement there really need to be investigated.
Pros: Some value, depending on who priced it.
Cons: Shady place. Needs to be investigated.

i have shopped at bargain city for many years, driving from north georgia. in the past year the merchandise has become ridiculously overpriced ( a book for $4.00). many comparable items can be purchased new at a retail store. these items are donated--!!!! it doesnt seem right to try to gouge the customer. they have lost my business and i am sorry because not only will i find someplace else to donate my things they have the opportunity toprovide a valuable service in the community and they are only shooting themselves in the foot.
Pros: easy to access
Cons: overpriced

Dianna is a terrible manager, treats her employees very bad. She fires good people cuz she doesnt like them , however keeps employees who supply her illegal substances. People shouldnt donate to the Vietnam Veterans of America, many things they throw away, refuse to give to agencys that help needy people. They make alot of money making people think it helps the vets, it doesnt! The main office is Bargain Thrift in Roswell, Ga, where the owner, John, has been in rehab quite a few times for the white stuff for his nose. I would suggest everyone boycott carolina thrift and go to a company like goodwill industries where the proceeds actually go to help the needy. Goodwill's prices are more in line as Carolina Thrist just wants as much money as they can get. Most every penny you spend at Carolina Thrift pays for salarys including more substances in Dianna's body, not to mention the owner. Dianna told a worker that the owner, John, came into the GSO location, took $90 from the register to buy substances. Is that the type company you want to keep in business? Just FYI, they put price stickers over 'defective' stickers on cartons, fooling the public and then refuse to give a refund, only a store credit. This is plain fraud, which has been reported to the NC Atty Generals Office. They have also been reported to the NC Labor Dept and the Federal INS as they employee so many non americans. There will soon be an article in the newspaper telling about all the underhand things this company does. If the general public wants to show they will not support a company like this, its really very simple, REFUSE to shop at their stores, go to other thrift stores who have high quality merchandise, who care about the community, treat their employees good and most of all, treat the customer as a human being. Money is too tight to allow a company like Carolina Thrift to rip off people as they have for so many years. BOYCOTT CAROLINA THRIFT...MAKE THEM SHUT DOWN OR CLEAN UP THEIR ACT.
Pros: none that i can see
Cons: poor management, on illegal substances, which will be made public, dont donate to vietnam veterans of america

I've been visiting Bargain City for over ten years. Sometimes it's a great place to find great bargains, sometimes not. Lately there have been many choices of high-end designer label NWT department store finds. These items are extremely reasonably priced and a great buy if you can find the appropriate size. Best buys at Bargain City are usually the clothes (for men, women, and children), books, and linens. Electronics are a bit 'chancy,' but it *is* a thrift store after all.
If you look real hard and visit very, very, very often, you might luck up on a 'collectible' item or maybe even an antique for a real steal. Keep in mind, however this is a rarity. I found a set of 8 "Southern Railroad" glasses there once for $6.99; and an Anne Klein NWT 350.00 coat for 15 bucks! The encased items at the front of the store that they think are collectible or valuable are not worth the price at all, so be careful there.
In spite of my occasional great finds at this thrift store, I do have a pet-peeve with Bargain City. There appear to be some workers in the back who 'price' these donated articles, and have deemed themselves to be experts in recognizing valuable items.
This has resulted in a lot of the items there being ridiculously overpriced. The majority of the framed pictures along the wall, for example, can usually be newly purchased for less at retail stores like Target, Michael's, and Marshall's, and Value City.
Another pricing atrocity are obvious used dollar store items being sold for 1.01.
So a word of caution to potential Bargain city shoppers is to use much discernment before making a purchase; and shop only on Saturdays and Mondays when everything in the store, except the high-end stuff, is half-price.
Be warned that you will often have to tolerate stepping over strewn toys and unsupervised children playing in the aisles.
Nonetheless, Bargain City is still a great adventure and worth the visit.
Pros: You'll find some good bargains.
Cons: Don't expect ambience or good customer service. It's a thrift store.

We have found lots of great items for our home. We have found dinnerware, bedding, plants and even furniture.
They always have a great selection of toys too. My daughter loves to shop there because she can always get more toys for her money.

Bargain City is a small thrift store but they always have a great selection available, in particular they've always got great women's skirts and dresses available. Also they get great jewelry in from time to time. They don't have a whole lot to offer as far as home furnishings but the clothes make up for it, the selection is really great and of course the prices are unbeatable.
