Maxim is pretty good as far as Chinese grocery stores go. Another store nearby is Kam Sam, think the competition got them to improve. I've found their groceries and frozen foods tend to be less expensive and selections are similar. Don't know about the meats, seafood or veges, what I usually need I can get at Safeway. But for specialty foods like pork buns, potstickers, tofu, Chinese snacks, soybean milk & ingredients for Asian recipes this is the place to go. Don't mind the cashiers, they don't seem as friendly as at Kam Sam, but they're not as rude as what you'd often find in D.C. or on the Metro.

I wish there was one nearby my home but I ended up going here sometimes during lunch time. It always seems so busy. The store is really clean and there is always someone there willing to assist you. I really like how they put little sample displays so that you can try the food before you eat it. The staff is really nice too! My husband likes to buy the milk there because it is organic. I usually buy the snacks...cookies "Back to Nature" brand has the best cookies out there!

This place is always busting with people. There is a bakery too that has a lot of fresh bakery goods that is inexpensive. There is always those who want a quick meal and you can get a box lunch for $5. The store is really clean. My only compliant is the aisle is too small, it's hard to fit a stroller within the Aisle so I usually have to carry my baby in. However, the store often has promotional sales and really fresh veggies and meats. The butcher can cut up your meat for you into realy thin slices.

I don't shop at this market that often, because it is further away from me, but it is much bigger than the Chinese markets in the area. It is Korean owned, but generally offers all the fruits, vegetables, meats, and seafood type groceries that all Asian cultures enjoy.
My favorite part is their fruits and vegetable section. It's big and is always fresh. Not to mention the fact that they have weekly sales and specials that can be great deals. They also sell pre-marinated Korean dishes like Bulgogi and Kal-bi which are really yummy and easy to make, even at home!

I've been to this place a handful of times, usually it's easy to stop off after gone to the giant nearby or something. The prices are reasonable, and they have a slightly smaller selection of beer, than wine.
Parking is in the back, and there is an entrance in the back by the parking, so you do not have to walk around to the front to enter.

This local grocery store is a nice change from the big supermarkets. It is located in the ground floor of a condominium complex. It is big enough to do practically all of your shopping. It often has prepared meats and packaged meats in smaller portions for busy professionals cooking for 1 or 2 people. The bagels come fresh everyday from Bethesda bagel and are really good. A lot of the meat and produce are from local sources as well. The store also sells a decent selection of beer and wine.

I went in a few weeks ago to check out the Oriental Gift Shop. It was an average gift shop with things that were obviously and intentionally made in China. I did not find what I wanted, but I'm sure some people were interested in the books and small gifts they had to offer.
I suggest calling them before going if you are looking for something in particular.

My friends had gone to Oriental Video before, because they carry Taiwanese videos, but I did not like it there since they have a very limited inventory of Cantonese movies and tv series. I watch both, but prefer Cantonese movies over Mandarin. They are a bit expensive, but that is the case with all the Chinese movie rentals around this area.
