More
The Firehouse Theatre Project is a small non-profit company with one mission, to bring to Richmond plays that would not otherwise be produced and performed here. And in addition to showcasing some talanted Richmonders, that is exactly what they are doing.
While I'm sure the Firehouse would like very much to draw a full house for every performance, the plays that are produced are not choosen by the ability to attract a large mainstream audience. It is because of my experience in non-profit theatre that I can tell you that there is much consideration that goes into choosing a play that is meaningful and entertaining in some way. You may be delightfully surprised if one night you find yourself at the Firehouse and actually enjoying yourself. Tickets are usually not that expensive as far as theatre goes. Many shows even offer student discounts, weekend matinees and often run a "pay-what-you-can" night during the week to help fill the house. Season information can be found on the Firehouse Theatre Project website: www.firehousetheatre.org
I think most people who live in Richmond would be surprised to know exactly how many professional writers, actors and other creative talent is here, mainly because there is little in the way of local exhibition. Artist galleries like Artspace and Art Works have been multiplying for the past 5 years, probably thanks to some VCU grads who decided to stay instead of moving to New York. Along with the Barksdale Theatre, Firehouse is doing it's part to keep talent and interesting theatre in Richmond.

After 20 years in Richmond,I finally attended a concert at the Carpenter Center and was absolutely blown away. This is a beautiful old theatre, and they have really done a great job to maintain it's original glory. It is a small venue,it almost reminds me of an old fashioned auditorim or movie theatre.I look forward to returning to this place many more times. I loved it!

If you ever get a chance to see the Latin Ballet preform don't miss it! They do such a lively show, involving dancers of all ages doing some beautiful traditional and ethnic dances -- I feel like I've been on a tour of exotic places when I've left one of their shows --

I simply love ballet, which is new for me but since my little girls want to be pretty ballerinas I've grown a fondness for it I've never had before --
Going to see the Richmond Ballet preform is so much fun -- I took my daughter to see the Nutcracker before Christmas and they really out did themselves -- the sets were beautiful and interactive, the dancers included many children who were just delightful and both my daughter and I were spell bound --
Be sure to dress up in your Sunday Best if you go to see the Nutcracker or you'll feel left out! That's actually part of the fun!

We saw “The Empire Rocks Back”, a musical comedy show at ComedySportz. I haven’t laughed that hard in so long! It was so cheaply done that was hilarious in itself, and the signing was so bad it was funny, but the humor was all there! The show was making fun of Star Wars’ “The Empire Strikes Back”. $12 per person was a deal to laugh that hard!
