The 17th Street Surf shop is a great place to buy skateboarding accessories. The staff was courteous and knowledgeable, and the prices were great. Their skateboard bearings are priced similar to those found on EBay. Their clothing is more expensive than you will find in chain stores, but the quality is top of the line. If you have a skateboarding enthusiast in the family, a gift certificate from here would make the perfect gift.

This is a very large farmer’s market in downtown. We visit every Thursday for the Thursday Growers’ Market since it is very kid friendly then. You can buy local organic and regular produce and baked goods, even cheese, plus various other items. Parking is free, which is a rare find downtown. My boys love visiting because they offer activities just for them and they get to listen to live music.

I went to the Midlothian store and met with Eric in Sales, I spoke with several several people there, who went out of there way to get me the right information on the bike that would suit me. After speaking with Eric he introduced me to one of the shop "wrenches" (Reeves). After about five minutes of talking to him about how I ride he knew exactly the bike I needed. A Gary Fisher Mullet. The bike was a special order, it arrived in less than 48 hours (I was impressed).
There was only one small problem with a part and the store had it fixed in less than 2 working days (Again I was really impressed). Reeves took the time to tweak my bike the way he knew I would ride it. The bike is simply amazing. I can tell you this... I have never been treated better and delt with a more Helpful and knowledgeable staff at any Bike store in the Country..and my job makes me travel allot...trust me
I would highly recommend this store to anyone new to biking or experienced riders... Thanks again to the staff at Agees (Eric, Reeves, Will, Steve, you guys are awesome..)
Pros: Fantastic Customer Service, Excellent advice
Cons: None so far

So my dad was finally done with his Cannondale time trial bike with a super light aluminum frame and super clunky Profile aerobar gearshifters. It's an older bike, but we're talking about 10 years older, not like not one of those old-timey bikes with the big front wheel and tiny back wheel. Not the cutting edge but a fine bike. Originally quite expensive as I understand.
At any rate I've always had my eye on this fine bike, and when I finally had the chance I snatched it up and set my sights on getting it modified to use about town. So where do I take it? AGEE'S, because not only do I hear they bring out the best in you but when I walk in they actually have one of those old-timey bikes with the big front wheel and the tiny back wheel! Great, so these dudes must appreciate an older bike with a story, right?
Hells no. They really seemed to think they were doing me a huge favor just to grease her up, put on new a new seat, tires, pedals and take my 160 dollars. And when I took it back to say that I really would appreciate new gear shifters even if they were just plain 'ol bar end shifters (after they'd deflected this request the first time), they quoted that modification alone at 300+ dollars, money they suggested 'would be better spent on a new bicycle.' A suggestion that, sensitive as I may be, kind of felt like a bit of a snub or at the very least blatant redirection.
*Especially* after I managed to do it myself in just under an hour with nothing but the tools and materials I found in my own garage.
So, long story short (too late), if you want a new bicycle, maybe this is the best place on the entire planet. Honestly, I wouldn't know. I do know that if you have an older bike that you love, and you don't want a sales pitch for a replacement or grief for the hassle of working on it, the Midlo Agees might not be your best bet.
Pros: They had an old-timey bicycle with a big front wheel and a tiny back wheel.
Cons: They probably make fun of it and throw spitballs at it when no one is around.

AMF Shrader lanes is conveniently located off of Broad Street. It is a nice bowling alley in a well lit area that is safe at night. The alley is clean and there are plenty of shoes and balls. It is a little expensive but alot of fun. They have many leagues too.

Belle Isle is a beautiful park to go to. It is the last thing you would expect to find in the middle of the city of Richmond. You walk across a pedestrian bridge and can follow a trail all the way around the island. Along the way you can stop and hang out on the rocks along the James River, pack a picnic lunch, bring your dog (on a leash, of course!), and maybe even take a swim in the river if the water isn't too high. There are also some bike trails, although I have never used them personally.
It can be a little crowded on a summer weekend, but it is a beautiful (and free!) way to spend a day!

More
Looking for something entertaining for your 2 - 7 year old? The Richmond Children's Museum is a wonderful place to start. The museum has many interactive exhibits, such as a mouth children can walk into to demonstrate the digestive process. Beware of obscenely funny sounds! There is a grocery store and apple orchard in which kids can role play. There is a tree house and cave children can climb around. There is a large room dedicated exclusively to crafts. Periodically temporary exhibits are featured, such as dinosaurs. There is also a play area for younger children with a gate. It can become over crowded with older siblings at times.
This is a great place to host a birthday party. We had our older daughter's 3rd birthday party there last year with great success. The museum buddy assigned just for your party keeps things moving - and that's important for preschoolers! I forgot the candles for the cake and the hostess even had spare ones!
Weekends can be a bit cramped, but weekday mornings are usually not too bad - look out for the occasional school group.
Also, look for coupons for one free child's admission with the purchase of an adult admission on the box of Ukrop's brand cereals!

Children's Museum of Richmond is a great place for kids. They are a lot of fun and variety displays. They offer a lot of special event such as Harry Potter and American Girls events during weekends. The only drawback is that their price is relatively expensive, and I only can bring my kids there occasionally.
