I absolutely love Crump park and the adjacent Meadow Farm -- there are two playgrounds which are pretty much side by side -- there's so many innovative and creative playthings for the kids and it's all so colorful and fun --
The only problem with this park is a lack of swings, there are only 4 and I have 3 kids! It's hard to wait that long for swings! Luckily my little girls are generally pretty happy on everything else anyway so it's no great loss.

Maymount Park is the best park in the area. It is huge with lots of open space just to play frisbee or have a picnic. The indoor center with the fish is excellent. The petting zoo is fun for kids. They have many animals. Plus it is free. The parking is limited, but otherwise it is great.

We have been to Lewis Ginter twice for the Christmas displays, and we loved it so much that we bought a year long membership. The gardens are gorgeous in all seasons, and membership gives you the benefits of classes, trips, and access to special events. The gift shop has a lot of great gardening and gift ideas.
There are also a lot of great facilities to hold weddings and receptions, although a little pricy!

We use Rockwood Park mostly for the biking and hiking trails. They have mountain biking trails that far exceed what we expected to find in there. The playground areas are fun for kids, and I have always found the park to be very clean and well kept.
It's convenient location at Hull Street and Courthouse Road mkes it easy to get to from all areas of Chesterfield County. It's a great park- bigger and better than many of the others nearby!

Belle Isle is a beautiful park to go to. It is the last thing you would expect to find in the middle of the city of Richmond. You walk across a pedestrian bridge and can follow a trail all the way around the island. Along the way you can stop and hang out on the rocks along the James River, pack a picnic lunch, bring your dog (on a leash, of course!), and maybe even take a swim in the river if the water isn't too high. There are also some bike trails, although I have never used them personally.
It can be a little crowded on a summer weekend, but it is a beautiful (and free!) way to spend a day!

This is a very large farmer’s market in downtown. We visit every Thursday for the Thursday Growers’ Market since it is very kid friendly then. You can buy local organic and regular produce and baked goods, even cheese, plus various other items. Parking is free, which is a rare find downtown. My boys love visiting because they offer activities just for them and they get to listen to live music.

You won't regret it! The Museum of the Confederacy has an open house every Christmas with choral groups, bell players and people in period costumes to answer any questions you have -- there's a ton of interesting artifacts and honest looks at the history of the Confederacy.
It's not very expensive during the year but on their Christmas open house it's free!

This park boasts a nice playground and large soccer fields. The play area is self contained by a fence. There are lots of swings, a great jungle gym, and even 2 sandboxes full of shovels and play toys. My son always comes home full of sand, but very happy. The facility is even handicap accessible. There are some walking trails, a basketball court, and picnic shelters that can be reserved.
