Step back into the 1920's when you go to this theater! The Byrd is a great place for a date. With the beautiful chandelier to the red carpet, you will feel like royalty walking in for a movie. The seats are a bit small but for a cheap movie ticket, you will get your money's worth. Great date night idea. Many great shops and eateries around so you can stop by those before hitting a movie. Do not expect new released movies to be at the byrd.
Pros: classy, ambience, service, friendly staff,
Cons: parking

If you have $2, you can go to this thertre for movie. The movie played there are not the newest, but the cheapest and funny. They have all what a theatre need. To my surprise, even for this cheapest ticket, you can get a greeting piano porforming for 10 minutes. They play some beautiful sound and get the cheer from the people. The movie is about 3 month old but still amazing if you are not always keep updating on new movies. So spent $4 for both you and your girl friend to have a nice weekend! You have to parking your car 0.3 miles since the theatre does not have its own parking.

The Byrd Theatre should be experienced by everyone, especially on the weekends when an organ rises from the ground. Old, historic landmark. A must see.

I love that the Byrd Theatre offers cheap viewings of classic movies at midnight ... alright, "classic" for my generation. Who wouldn't want to see "The Goonies" on the big screen again? They also host the VCU French film festival every year, which provides a little bit of class to those of us looking to watch a film in subtitles. My only complaint (and it's a big one) is that the seats are not only uncomfortable but almost unseatable by the end of a film. They are AWFUL. I wish some renovation could be done to replace them, but I guess that's part of the appeal. I'd rather watch the film standing, thank you very much.

This is a great theatre, and one of my first memories from when I first came to Richmond. The Byrd Theatre features a beautiful interior, with a large chandalier and a balcony. They also have a Wurlitzer organ, which is played before some movies,it rises up out of the stage. They also feature Saturday Night midnight movies. The concession prices are reasonable. My only complaint is,of course, the very uncomfortable seats. But it is a great place for a fun, cheap date!

Unfortunately I am tall. Usually I have to want to see a movie pretty bad if I want to sit through the torture that is the Byrd Theater. Don't get me wrong, the theater is a beautiful historical landmark, but the seats have not been renovated since humans were significantly shorter than they are today. On a positive note, one can't beat the price of admission ($2) and their reasonably priced concessions.

Where else can you go and see staff dressed in 1920's clothes, a twirling wurlitzer rise up out of the floor, and a midnight showing of "Dial M for Murder" in 3-D?? This is a real theatre! It's fun, interactive, local and enjoyable!
They have annual French film festivals, midnight movies from the 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' to old classics like Hitchcock -- the little intro that you see on screen at a new theatre isn't what you get here -- HERE you get a locally filmed special which nearly everyone in the audience knows the words to -- you'll love it if you go, it's a true original!

When you step inside, it almost takes your breath away. The elegance of the theater is remarkable--is it possible something like this can still exist in the twenty-first century? It's like a time warp--and it will forever have class.
Pros: cheap, beautiful, historic, the organ
Cons: not enough leg room
