In town on business and I like to stay away from chains if possible. Kuba kuba was the best food I had all week in Richmond. The chorizo stuffed pork tenderloin was outstanding! If I were a local this would be regular stop for me.

Carnin's was recomended by a local hotel. My wife and I love authentic Italian restaurants and Carni's met all of our expectations. Service was superb, the aptmosphere was warm with a local charm, and the manager was welcoming. There were many choices for adults and young children. Food quality was extremely high and priced appropriately. Dinner at Carini's made our last evening on vacation most memorable.
Pros: Ambience, food selection and quality

The finest Italian food anywhere. Dinner can run to $100 for two, depending. Ah, but here, it's worth, and consider how much cheaper than a trip to Italy--or even New York City. The dishes are the most stably creative, the chef and kitchen are dependably good. Aside from back when Steve's, out in Goochland, was making magnificent wonders such as a goose ravioli, with the eggplant ravioli pasta this gorgeous lavendar color, the flavor and texture of the entire creation just exquisite, I have never encountered any Italian food, regardless of region, that has made such magnificently spot-on creations as well as reaching perfection with the traditional dishes. By the way, it's entirely possible to still get the best Northern Italian food anywhere--ANYwhere--for less than $100 for two. Service is superb. They've now got a different maitre d' than the one I knew, who was THE best, and ran his ship precisely the way it should be run--gracious service that's attentive but not hovering, which was not only the best in town under him, but anywhere I've ever eaten --no matter how high-priced the restaurant. That said, I'm sure they've maintained their high standards with whoever is there today. This is THE place to dine in town. There is simply none better. (Oh, and the tiramisu is to die for--do get it, even if you're too full. Just take it home for later, and you'll be thankful all over again.) This is where to go for a truly fine dining experience, first for the food, but as well as for excellent service, which only enhances it. Those of us who can cook this way at home, but have always avoided going out because it seemed pointless to pay for less than perfection--which would inevitably be served with disregard (or even disdain)--have a reliable refuge that is an oasis that offers the ultimate in hospitality.

I love Joe's inn. There is usually a little bit of a wait for a table, but it's well worth it. The food is great; breakfast is served ALL DAY LONG and is great. The spaghetti is also another one of my favorite dishes. Joe's is such a cute little restaurant. If you're ever in the Richmond area, a stop at Joe's is a must.

I'm sure there are a few people who just don't get the vibe or the style of food at Millie's, but there are plenty of other restaurants for those folks. If you're looking for creative cuisine, one of the best wine lists anywhere, and a memorable experience, go to Millie's. Saturday and Sunday brunch are much like attending a rock 'n roll concert, weekday lunches are just what's needed to break up the monotony of work, and every dinner is a work of art. Many staff members (who are also musicians and artists) have been there for more than a decade, and once you've entered the fold as a regular, you are treated as part of the restaurant's ever-growing, amazingly talented, slightly dysfunctional family. If you're a single diner, go in and sit at the counter; you're bound to meet any variety of people who will soon become friends.
Note: under "restaurant info," this site claims that smoking is allowed; Millie's is a non-smoking restaurant.

Apollo's is great! I don't know what these negative reviewers are talking about! We have ALWAYS had good food here...everything we have ever tried. The selection is great! Fast service, good and friendly staff. Our favorites are cheesesteak sub, LASAGNA! and the meat Stromboli! Try it. you WILL like it!
Pros: lots of food choices, fast, friendly and good value
Cons: smaller seating area

We attended Azzurros last night for an evening out with our family while in town. Let me say, we were impressed by not only the attention to detail each member of the staff gave us, but also the crowd they amassed during what is supposed to be a "recession."
It seems necessary to make a reservation here. We sat around 6:00pm as a few tables started trickling in. As we were leaving, we saw many groups being turned away at the door. I would say the ambiance is very inviting but the restaurant became very noisy as the night went by.
Order the Lasagna. Best me and my wife have ever had. We will return when back in town.
Pros: Attentiveness of Waitstaff, Lasagna
Cons: Parking was difficult

I still see this as the best place to get unpretentious quality steaks and food. No need to drive to mall areas and pay twice as much for poor food. I still find it constantly good and comfortable.
Pros: just great food, unpretentious
Cons: not enough locations

With all of the options available in the area, Akida's a nice find tucked away in a strip mall. Extensive menu with reasonable pricing. The sushi is hands down some of the best I've had in Virginia.
Pros: Fresh Sushi, Intimate Dining Area
